Since the Daily News no longer really gives any coverage to girl's basketball, here's a stab at what at Top 10 would look like for their coverage area.

Week 5 - December 10

1. Sierra Canyon (8-0) - Just cruising. Barring an off night, no one in Valley can beat them. Impressive week with wins over ECR, Alemany, and Serra - and none of them were close.
2. Alemany (9-2) - Wins over Serra and ECR. No shame in losing to Sierra Canyon right now. Big game this week as they host Windward on Friday.
3. Granada Hills (9-1) - Won Burroughs tourney with comeback win vs. Harvard Westlake and then pasted Chaminade in finals. Off this week for finals.
4. Harvard Westlake (6-4) - Lost to Brentwood and Granada Hills. They are up and down right now. Get some help in January with a transfer from Providence.
5. Chaminade (4-4) - Beat Brentwood, dominated by Granada Hills. Which team is the real Nade? No schedule showing until Jan 2.
6. El Camino Real (3-5) - Tough week of losses to Sierra Canyon, Serra, and Alemany (almost won). Playing tough waiting for transfer. Off this week for finals.
7. Valencia (4-5) - Foothill League play starts Friday as they travel to Saugus. Winner has leg up for league title.
8. Saugus (10-1) - Record is deceiving as they have played a really weak schedule. Needs a win over Valencia Friday to move up.
9. Crescenta Valley (5-5) - Only quality win is vs. Foothill Tech. Host Burroughs in league opener.
10. Burroughs (9-0) - Nice record, but who have they played? Need to beat Crescenta Valley to get in driver's seat for league title.

It's Sierra Canyon's world and everyone else is living in it right now. They aren't just winning, they are pounding people. Will this be the year they can knock off Windward?

Granada solidified their front-runner status in City Section with easy win over Chaminade. ECR is losing but playing SS Open level teams tough. Best games in City this year will be Granada vs. ECR.

The top 6 teams have really separated themselves. There is a hard line after 6 right now. And not many teams stepping up to jump in to the Top 10.

Not a lot of games this week as many schools have finals. Best game by far is Alemany hosting Windward. Alemany is really surprising people this year with their strong play.

Hopefully, there will be civil, rational discussions on the pros and cons of each team or any I may have missed. Looking for a little more than "Team X sucks" or "Team Y should be there".

Here's to a great season, full of exciting games and no injuries!
