You can pretty much throw out any blanket statement about coaching and scheduling. Every situation is different. The best I can put together for a blanket statement about coaching and scheduling is that a coach should make those decisions based on maximizing what their players get out of participating in enjoyment and growth. Hard work, teamwork, success, overcoming adversity, dealing with failure, setting and achieving goals, the list goes on.

I setup my schedule to maximize the girls' experience this year and to make us the best possible team we could be by season's end. I want the girls to have fun becoming the best that they can be.

As for scheduling, we were quite bad last season as our focus was on getting experience and growing and improving. Everyone wanted to schedule us this season. As it turns out, we only scheduled a handful of teams rated below us in the CIF Divisional ranking system. However, as the start of the season began to unfold, it appeared our work had paid off and we were much better than anticipated. Since then 3 team have backed out of their games with us. Last season we lost to a team by 64 points and had them scheduled a month later. We didn't even consider dodging them the 2nd game. So that thought process escapes me.
