: : : : UCLA loses to LMU. Players missing for the Bruins but a miserable game for them and Coach Close continues to prove that any success she's had has been because of Canada and Billings. Low energy for the Bruins and little game plan.
: : : : She's always seemed to be in over her head but without the players, her w/l ratio will likely be very bad.
: : : Enough. UCLA wasn't playing with a full deck. LMU is very solid. UCLA lacks leadership at the PG position. That is the bottom line. When UCLA beats great teams its because of the players, when they lose its the coach. JUST STOP. You win with the Jimmys and the Joes and its the same with losing. Its a down year. You think Coach Elliott all of the sudden became a great coach. No she has a much better team. Neither coach runs great stuff, both tried man, zone, press, etc. UCLA players played uninspired until the 4th when they clamped down on D. Before that their D was awful. 90 percent of the blame is on the players, just like 90 percent of the credit when they beat a good team is on the players. Both coaches for both programs are decent, not the best and far from bad.
: : : Parents; accept accountability it is your kids when a team under performs just like you give no praise to coaches when the team wins big games.
: : :: Thank you! UCLA had everything to lose and LMU had everything to gain. The game was settled on the "hard wood" - the way it was meant to be.
: : Congrats to both (Actually three with USC) So. Cal programs and the talented young ladies, exceptional opportunities that were provided.
: They had lost their two top players to the WNBA and this was seen as a rebuilding year. We saw that the rebuilding will be much more extensive than previously thought. It is too bad that UCLA essentially settles for a mediocre coach but when they can't pay, I guess she's the best they have to get.
: As for LMU being a much better team, with the exception of Gabby Green, UCLA has much higher ranked players but Close still can't make them meld together. Losing is a way of life for UCLA womens basketball and nice to see the tradition continue.
Half of College Basketball is recruiting. Evidently she did a poor job of that the last couple of years or UCLA would have a great players. The other half is coaching so if UCLA has great players then the Coach isn't doing a very good job of Coaching. It all comes down to the Coaching whether it's recruiting or playing. Stop making excuses for poor Coaching and/or recruiting.
