: : : : : : : : : : : : Others: Fullerton, Saddleback Valley Christian, Orange Vista, California Military, Garey, Sherman Indian, Citrus Hill, Jurupa Hills, Highland

: : : : : : : : : : : : This is a tough, deep division taking into regard the level of teams here. I think it is has greater depth than D4AA. This division is greatly affected by the deletion of Division 5AAA from last year.

: : : : : : : : : : : : Division 4A is full of playoff teams from last year. Three from 4AA, ten teams from last year's 4A, a total of 11 from 5AAA (including two semifinalists and half of the quarterfinalists), seven from 5AA (including a finalist and 6 of the quarterfinalists) and both the champion and finalist from 5A. There is a HUGE drop off in strength of teams from 4A to 5AA this year. The elimination of D5AAA made this a brutal division for the teams that make it this year.

: : : : : : : : : : : : There are also teams that missed the playoffs last year that will make noise here if they make it, including Calabasas, Paramount, Capo Valley and Bellflower. Of course, incoming freshman, transfers and new league affiliations will also have a big impact on what happens here.

: : : : : : : : : : : Just some 411 Big D. Highland is better than Lancaster. They will win every game by 25 plus. Santa Clara is absolutely awful. I saw both this summer. Those are the first glaring holes

: : : : : : : : : : Highland can be better than Lancaster. They lost to them twice last year. One game was by 40 points.

: : : : : : : : : Last year. I am talking this year. Do your research. Highland and Lancaster will battle for the league with Knight. 3 way race. Anyone from up there will tell you Highland is a HUGE favorite to win 4A. Might be the biggest favorite of any CIF Division. By the way Big D. The lefty guard from St Gen also transferred out. They will be down also. Still a contender for this weak division but Highland is your team to beat. Trust me Big D. I know your team is in 4AA but this division is over before it starts. Xavier Prep will also have a long shot look. Heritage Christian can make some noise also. Calabasas will have trouble qualifying but they can be a high seed if they get in.

: : : : : : : : Carnegie Riverside will not have a team let alone be ranked. They lost the only player on their team that could play.

: : : : : : : Highland will not win the division. It will be a team that is not even mention on the list. You watch and see.

: : : : : : Garey High. 19-9 last year and they return the entire roster.

: : : : : : Agreed that Carnegie is done. But Santa Clara is decent. Their problem is they only have one player, but she is legit. CCSA was a one-woman team last year, and she graduated.

: : : : : Garey will be a major player although they lost to Oakwood. Highland will kill them but they certainly can make a deep run.

: : : : While Highland is improving, let's not anoint them champion of anything just yet. In summer leagues, they played AV to a 3 point game and Lancaster beat them by 30+ ... They are putting in the work and talent is increasing; coach is motivated; Knight and Lancaster are aware..

: : : : 4A is actually a good spot for them and they will definitely make the playoffs and have a chance to make a run...

: : : : For comparisons sake, your #3 Mo Valley played Palmdale last year (7th place team in Golden League) and lost by 4 ... Highland beat Palmdale by 3 and 23... so if Mo Valley and their new coach (and he's a solid coach) is considered #3, then Highland is definitely a Top 10 team pre-season team...

: : : I just watched Xavier Prep beat Moreno Valley by 15 two weeks ago

: : I think this is Thad's 2nd year at XP and they are still very young.... He will do a good job with them and they should be higher than 26th..

:
: I just wanted to thank everyone for the comments and input. I don't claim to be all-knowing, especially at this early stage. I wanted to put together a pre-season list to stimulate discussion and possibly learn more about the division. A lot of this was based on last year, how teams did and their playoff success. Teams go through big changes year to year, which will obviously impact what happens this season. I am aware of other potential teams not listed. L.B. Jordan had a tough year last season, but they can bring in a few newcomers and would be contenders if they made it. Since the team I am affiliated with is a 4A team, I will be closely evaluating this division and will post observations/rankings, especially as we get to January. Division 4A will be interesting to watch this season!

The problem with LB Jordan is that they are in the Moore League and the only team they could even dream about beating anytime soon would be Cabrillo. Poly, Millikan, Lakewood, Wilson and even Compton were beating Jordan by very large margins like 70 points last season, and Jordan was being coached by a former WNBA player who is not returning this year. The team won zero games all season last year and even forfeited a couple non-league games because of lack of attendance. Since Jordan graduated their two best players from last season they would have to have a LOT of impact freshmen in order to even win one league game. The school is located in a low income neighborhood that is filled with Section 8 rentals and housing projects, not to mention drug dealers and gang members. Since the school district allows kids to pick which district high school they attend, those with athletic or academic potential usually choose to catch a bus to nearby Poly or maybe another school. Jordan was unable to field a JV or frosh team last year because they only had 9 girls in the entire program and many league insiders question whether or not Jordan will even have enough kids to play varsity games this year. The AD would love to fix the situation but then again she won't even let her own children attend Jordan, and I don't blame her. I think you can safely scratch Jordan off your watch list.
