: Now that summer basketball is in full swing, one starts to wonder what group of teams will be the good ones this coming school year. Who will be a force to be reckoned with in the City, the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valley?

...the SFV/SCV area will still be run by the usual suspects.

Sierra Canyon is alone at the top. G DeJesus and big girl Olinger lead another strong team.

Nade is down, especially depth and experience wise, but will still be better than most. Whitfield is a beast.

Same with Alemany, to a lesser degree. PG is solid if not spectacular, and Villalobos is emerging as a true star.

Granada has the best shooter (Berfield) in the area and also a developing 6-3 big girl playing EYBL.

El Camino lost a lot, but is getting a really good girl from Chaminade and has a nice duo of juniors.

Valencia and Canyon (who lost a ton of talent) will still run the SCV.

And then there is HW. Everyone thinks they are way down. Guess what? Everyone except Sierra Canyon is. They will still be good. Big girl gets better every week. Soph PG is also really good. And, as always, Melissa will develop whoever gets into school and make them better. Are they Open Division finalists? Probably not. This may be there make-a-run-in-D1 year.

The big story all around is, while there are some really good "elite" players, there are fewer of them this year. And the next level of players is not as strong as in years past. The number of players are down in general, and someone needs to figure out why and try to reverse the trend.
