: : : : While I appreciate his efforts and commitment to getting high school kids some more exposure (but he is also trying to sell photos and mixtapes), I find many of his opinions to be misguided.
: : : : For instance, the Alemany duo he talks about is hardly elite.
: : : : And his team evaluations are even more off base (unless it is something about say, Windward or Harvard Westlake being really good).
: : : : It's just his opinion, but he likes to push himself as some kind of guru because he played on a really good Crenshaw team before any of these kids were born.
: : : : Again, I commend the effort, I just wish they were less extreme and more analytical.
: : : That's pretty close to how I see it. At least he's writing about the game and trying to grow it. Yeah, I don't agree with some of what he says, but he's putting in time.
: : : He's got the same problem that any actual news source would have in covering basketball in SoCal--so many teams and players, and so few writers covering them. Really hard to get info.
: : : Walt's Dog
: : The Dog is right again, as usual. It's nice to see coverage of the girls game, even if you don't agree with everything Pop says. I'd be happy to see a few more folks get out there and take pictures and videos and do some writeups so we have more to talk about. Good for you Popscout for doing something. Glad to see you found a better picture of India Otto though...one she's actually in LOL.
: This is the problem with some of these parents. If the article is not about their daughters then it's a bad article. No consideration that a person can only be at 1 place at a time.
: If he's not talking about your daughter then maybe he hasn't seen your daughter play. If he's saying that this girl is the best defender out there, he means that she's the one based on the ones he has seen so far.
: Yah, he made some articles that made me scratch my head but it's a learning process for the dude. If he's pro then he'd be writing for LA Times and the rest of them big papers that hardly cover girls basketball.
: Chillax, don't take it personally. Stir the guy the right way on what you think is good writing. But don't try to shob your agenda down his throat. That's not going to work. And if he finds out who you are, he might just make an article on how NOT to play basketball, staring your girl. Thread lightly and be cool.
I just finished my 15th year in the classroom and itís vacation time !!! Iíll be back tougher and stronger for next season. Working out the kinks like nappy hair.
