: : : : congratulations on being name coach of the year in the Inland Valley
: : : Boo!apparently his players dont vote. Lol
: : Garey coach should have gotten it. He overachieved with little talent.
: LOL!! Garey was down in what Division 5A? Almost any team would overachieve down in Division 5A. Garey has an enrollment around 1,800 and they overachieved beating the lowest of the low and small private schools. Great job to the Garey coach. Garey was third in their league too. So you want to reward a coach and a team that finished third in their league, lost in the CIF Finals in Division 5A to a school with an enrollment of around 300 students. Garey overachieved? LOL!! Yeah sure, okay.
::I don't have a horse in this race, but I have to say something. I have seen both teams play. If you are coaching at Etiwanda, you get transfers coming in, you get girls who know how to play before they get there. As a coach, you have to push them to the next level and get them to play harder than they ever thought they could. You have the pieces, but you have to figure out the right way to use them. If you coach at Garey, any girl who can play the game never set foot on your campus. They enrolled at Diamond Ranch or Ayala or Chino Hills. In that neighborhood, you aren't getting club players. You're teaching them how to make a chest pass and how to make a lay-up. How can you LOL at that? It's very difficult to compare those two worlds. Stan has done a great job of continuing the Etiwanda tradition, but Kevin has done a great job of turning around a dysfunctional program. Two years ago Garey was 3-16! This year they finished at 19-9! Can they help it if CIF put them in 5A? Can Etiwanda help it that St. Lucy's in on their schedule twice a year (which is really two wasted games)? You play whoever is on the court. I think both coaches have done outstanding jobs.
