: : : : : : : : : : Aquino got the publicity but Pendande got the awards. I saw Ribet a few times and was not very impressed with either thought I thought Aquino had more potential. Both are headed for Pac 12 schools so good for them but did people get so caught up with PR that 6'9" Aquino is considered the 7th best player in the nation?
: : : : : : : : : : Pendande got both the Wooden Award as well as the LA Times All Star team.
: : : : : : : : : : And not trying to start anything with the Ribet faithful but how does a team with two post players like this underachieve?
: : : : : : : : : They should have been able to score - or at least get a shot on the block - every possession of every game.
: : : : : : : : : And if they missed, the other - or Mensah - could have cleaned up the glass.
: : : : : : : : : No knock on the team. It's all about the coaching.
: : : : : : : : Had all the pieces to make a great run but coaches donít understand about empowering their players. Would scream and yell at them and get mad when they make mistakes...I know itís high school but players are still developing...duh so for these coaches to have this type of demeanor in this day and age leaves a very bad taste in my mouth
: : : : : : : They should have stayed at Division 2 where they belong.
: : : : : : : How did she get wooden Division 2 award if they played in the Open CIF and division 1 State?
: : : : : : I thought Aquino was overrated but she was not helped by the coaching. I saw her at the start and at the finish and there was no improvement at all. I know she'll do better at Oregon State with coaches and a great point guard but I still have problems seeing her as a Div. 1 talent. I think Pendande can do something in a few years at Utah.
: : : : : : Sad that Aquino came to LA and got such a poor high school experience. It seemed like the coach made up for his lack of knowledge by yelling at the players.
: : : : : Their parents should have checked around on their options. Lots of these private schools have living arrangements for foreign students. Mater Dei, Alemany, Sierra Canyon, etc...
: : : : The Aquino story is a bad one. She was brought to New Jersey from Peru and essentially lived in poverty with a relative. It's anyone's guess how she ended up at Ribet but it didn't do her or the school any good.
: : : Peru you sure Know about her story make sure you go to Paraguay and Peru and learn the difference in 2 countries. Ribet got the exposure even though Pendande did all the work and collected all the awards and Aquino stayed in US and did not get deported. So I say every one is pretty happy.
: : Peru, Paraguy, they're all below the border.
: : Ribet probably had the best or at least equal talent of any team in the nation. With that said, they probably had a park and rec level coaching staff. The two balanced out to a first round exit in the open and a semi final appearance in state division 1. That, on the surface, seems to be a great accomplishment, but when you look at what they had at post and at guard, anyone with any real high school coaching knowledge knows that Ribet should have won some form of state title this season. Talent will get you so far, but to win at the highest levels, the coaching has to at least be close to the same level of talent.
did you see the 6'9" girl played she could not hold on to the ball they had the bigs but no shooting guards the one they had did not wanted to shoot their coaching was not all that also but you are giving to much credit to their players this year all the schools were bad so they looked good lets see who they got next year
