: : : : : : : : Where was your great Coaching tonight?
: : : : : : : So Glendora goes undefeated. Wins CIF. wins around in State. Then loses to a border line open team on the road and they need to hire a new coach. How about this response......Great season! Well done.
: : : : : :
: : : : : : Exactly. Thirty two and one is impressive at any level. It's not like they get to pick what league they're in or what playoff division they're in.
: : : : : : Walt's Dog
: : : : : You are right. But the coach does pick his non-league schedule. Depending on the league that is 12 to 19 games. Every coach in Southern California knows what tournaments are top tier full of elite teams. Mid-level where some top tier to strong teams participate. Low level where some tournaments organizers restrict it to certain teams either by division level or quality of teams. You can argue that you can't control the tournaments either. Okay but usually the same level of teams are consistent. But teams move or drop out of tournaments. But a coach picks their non-league games that are not tournaments. Some coaches love a tough match-ups. Some coaches don't care who they play. But 90% of the coaches I know always want a game they can win or have a chance to win. Even if it is a showcase, extravaganza, shootout coaches try to control the match-up unless they know it is a winnable game.
: : : : : You can argue or try to spin things any way you want, but the Glendora's coach picked his non-league schedule. Fullerton Tournament, Whittier Christian Tournament and then his own tournament.
: : : : : Glendora won the Fullerton Tournament by an average of 55.5 points. The four teams Glendora played at the Fullerton Tournament were Bellflower (4AA) .333 win %, Los Amigos (4AA) .125 win %, Trabuco Hills (3AA) .778 win % and South Hills (3AA) .500 win %.
: : : : : Next Glendora won the Whittier Christian Tournament by an average of 49.75 points. The four teams Glendora played at the Whittier Christian Tournament were La Habra (2A) .192 win %, La Mirada (4A) .400 win %, Monrovia (4AA) .125 win % and Whittier Christian (3A) .724 win %.
: : : : : Glendora won the Glendora Tournament by an average of 38.2 points. The five teams Glendora played at their own tournament that the Glendora coach constructed the match-ups or bracket were Temple City (4AA) .643 win %, West Covina (2A) .481 win %, Elsinore (3A) .143 win %, Pasadena (3AA) .677 win % and Rancho Verde (3AA) .733 win %.
: : : : : Glendora won their four non-league games by an average of 38.75 points. The four teams were El Toro (3AA) .231 win %, South Torrance (2A) .417 win %, San Clemente (3AA) .517 win % and Garden Grove Pacifica (3A) .346 win %.
: : : : : So if you look at the 17 teams Glendora played in tournaments or non-league games 10 teams had a record below .500. 7 teams had a record .500 and above. Glendora played 3 teams from Division 2A, 6 teams from Division 3AA, 3 teams from Division 3A, 4 teams from Division 4AA and 1 team from Division 4A.
: : : : : So does Glendora's record of 32-1 still look impressive?
: : : : Yes still looks impressive...actually might be more impressive now that you let us know they won3 tournaments to go along with the League Championship and CIF Championship
: : : No it's not impressive at least a hundred CIF teams would've done the same with Glendora's Schedule. Go have your banquet. Say how wonderful you all are. Fake News!
: : Yeah sure 100 teams would of could of done it but didnt.....you could have gone pro but your coach didnt play you....you would be rich but you like being poor.....you would work out every day but you enjoy being lazy....you would have a wife but you are a loser
: The above poster is very judgemental and prejudice against the poor and gays. The poster above that just stated some true facts. Every team in the Open or D1 that consists of about 40 teams would've gone undefeated playing Glendora's Schedule. Many teams in D2AA would've too. Same with Ribet had they stayed in Glendora's Division. There's at least another 50 teams around the State that would've gone undefeated playing Glendora's Schedule. So that person that posted at least 100 teams around the State would've gone undefeated playing Glendora's Schedule did post true facts. I don't understand why Glendora can't admit the truth that they played a weak schedule.
In reality its a combination. Glendora has never really been considered a top team and never play a over the top schedule. Which makes sense because they arent a Division 1 team with Open division aspirations, not in the past, not this year, and not in the future.
This year they happened to be better than they typically will be with all their top players being Seniors. Next year they will drop significantly and play the same type of schedule and be back where they usually are.
People need to realize that it is perfectly okay for an average school to play other average school and once in every 20 or 30 years have a team that is a better than usual and when that happens they keep playing against other average schools and win a lot of games and have a special season.
