: : : : : Who do you think has a shot at taking this Division?
: : : : : Fairmont Prep will take this division. They've done a good job keeping a low profile this season.
: : :
: : : This is actually a good division with several really good if not great (this year) teams.
: : : Chaminade, if healthy, can win this. DiMuro is doing a really good job this year with basically 5 players.
: : : Long Beach Poly, while not the team of the last few years, is still super-athletic can beat anyone on a given day.
: : : Brea has been really solid despite the outflux of their best player and also the PG. Of the top 4, I think they are the longest shot.
: : : Canyon has a really strong duo with Bowers and the PG and a couple solid role players. Issue they may have is if the come up against a really athletic teams that can wear them out, especially Bowers, who basically plays every minute of competitive games.
: : : Alemany is always a threat, but I'm not sure the coaching is up to the bright lights of deeper rounds of the playoffs. I would make them favorites if Archer was available though.
: : : West could do damage, but I heard Jones is hurt. If that is true they won't go far.
: : : If Santa Barbara can get by Chaminade in the second round, they may surprise. Gordon gets the headlines, but Jimeniz is the one who makes that team go.
: : : Ventura is still solid, with 2 good guards and a beast in the post in Henderson. Unfortunately, Long Beach Poly in the second round is a bad match-up - athletic and more depth. Ventura only plays 6, and four starters really never come out.
: : :
: : : My pick to win it all is Long Beach Poly.
: : : My pick is Canyon. Many teams have a real difficult time matching up with them due to their size and strength.
: Your pick will not make it out of the first round. St. Anthony is going to upset Canyon. But how do you ask? Bowers will have to go body to body against someone bigger and stronger than her in Semaj Smith. If Bowers is truly a really good post she needs to show it against Smith. But usually with big, soft post players like Bowers they can't handle the contact or go do the extra effort to that is needed to score and rebound. That will be a problem. Also St. Anthony is athletic and fast, knows how to pressure teams. How does Canyon handle being sped up? The Canyon team I have seen doesn't like to be sped up and that will be a problem. Canyon will have to slow the game down. Pound the ball inside to Bowers and hope that Canyon can control the rebounding and the tempo. If not, Canyon will be in for a long night.
I'm just another BIG fan of basketball. I love to this time of year because of the intensity in the air.
I was just reading this thread and came upon POS's theory on why Canyon will be bounced out in the 1st round, which in some aspects it made sense to me. However, I do not think Canyon will lose to St. Anthony. I like St. Anthony's team. I know they have a tall center and some quick guards that will create issues for Canyon. I just don't see how they will be able to stop the other two bigs for Canyon. The African-American 6'2 young lady is very athletic and can score. And the big Hispanic girl is super strong. Those two girls, along with Bowers will create a bigger problem for St. Anthony. It should a be a good game to watch. The other thing to remember is that I believe Canyon beat St. Anthony twice last year, once in the semi-final game of the CIF Division 1AA. I'm sure they will be salivating at a chance for redemption
