: : : : : I just want to know what people think... dont say it's not as fun to watch as the boys game.. there has to be more than that as to why it's fading away.
: : : : -the cuts in the news business means that fewer staff to cover games-and girls sports don't generate eyeballs on pages like FB/BBB does.
: : : : -in upper-middle class areas soccer and volleyball are now the girls team sports of choice attracting the best athletes
: : : -numbers in GBB down/up for GVB. Most noticeable in affluent, predominantly white areas-particularly newer areas such as south OC.
: : : -Girls games are not played right before boys games in many locales. With fewer reporters the news outlets cover the boys.
: : it is also down on the boys side.
: : HS sports coverage is down on both sides, as is attendance.
: Because the dailies cover the same big schools and so others don't even report scores anymore. Dailies have become like a promoter of a only a few schools.
The reason the papers are focusing on the few "elite" teams are for the reasons outlined above.
Less resources, more clicks.
More people click/read about Mater Dei, Sierra Canyon, etc. than some school in D4 with no college or possible future pros.
This is the same reason girls coverage is down. Outside of family, friends and a small core of girls hoops fans, just less people click/read.
