: : : : : Wow. Who else is not impressed with any of the teams in the Big West?
: : : : : UC Davis - 7-0 in Conference - 17-3 Overall
: : : : : UC Irvine - 6-2 in Conferene - 14-8 Overall
: : : : : Cal Poly - 5-2 in Conference - 11-8 Overall
: : : : : CSUN - 5-3 in Conference - 12-10 Overall
: : : : : UCSB - 4-4 in Conference - 7-13 Overall
: : : : : UC Riverside - 3-5 in Conference - 6-16 Overall
: : : : : Hawaii - 2-6 in Conference - 9-12 Overall
: : : : : Cal State Fullerton - 2-6 in Conference - 7-14 Overall
: : : : : Long Beach State - 0-6 in Conference - 2-18 Overall
: : : : :
: : : : : The overall records of some of these schools are TERRIBLE. 8 out of the 9 schools might not even hit 20 wins this year. What's going on with the Big West? Most of the records last year were at least above .500!
: : : : Long Beach have same issues of Alemany injuries and new coach next year they will be better
: : : I assumed Long Beach had everything to do with the new coach. Especially considering they were No. 2 last year during Conference tournament. I hope they are better! It's a great school.
: : UC Davis is a solid team. They shoot really well and are well coached. they have a good RPI and if they make the big dance could shock someone if they get the right match up.
: : The reality the Big West schools face, much like many mid-majors, is if one of their better players gets hurt, sick, transfers, is ineligible, etc. it's hard for them to absorb it.
: : UC Irvine has a couple BCS transfers playing now, and the new(er) coach also brought in Coach Woods from USC and they have made a big turnaround.
: : Cal Poly had one of the Leuapepe twins get hurt early in the season and miss a bunch of games. She is getting healthy and they are playing better.
: : UCSB had their best player ineligible for first part of the year and they started like 1-9, including a couple of blowouts at UCLA and OSU. They struggle to score sometimes and if their big girl can't contribute a lot in a given game, they have issues.
: : And so on.
: : If you watch some of the games, they are usually competitive and entertaining.
: : The reality is only the team that wins the conference tourney makes it to the tourney.
: : In any given year, most the teams are just average, and when they get the right combination of players and coaches, they go on a bit of a run.
: : They also tend to try to over-recruit in that they shoot for the stars (pun intended) who will never go there and wait to long on good solid players that would help them. And by that time, those solid players have gone elsewhere. They need to build solid, consistent programs with those kids, then try to get the "big fish" who will put them over the top.
: : This conference is bad overall. Long Beach just doesnít have the talent on that roster, new coach has nothing to do with it. Great school? Itís a Cal State, isnít really that good..
