: : How is home court determined?

: 1st round home court is determined by your placement in league. A #1 seeded team that finished 3rd in their league would be on the road IF they were facing a team who placed 1st or 2nd in their league. Home court in the 1st round is simply league placement. If two teams are the same (both finished 2nd place), then a coin flip determines home court.

: For every round after that it is whichever team has hosted the LEAST amount playoff games for that bracket. If you both hosted in the first round then it goes to a coin flip. If one team hosted in round 1 and the other was on the road then for round two the team who was on the road gets the home game.

So when developing a poll or ranking I know the MaxPreps rankings are just a mathematical equation that weighs wins/ losses/ strength of schedule/ point difference, etc. for the entire year. A win in November is the same as a win in February (I know the playoffs are weighted extra) but late regular season games are worth the same as early preseason games. The computer poll kind of shows a composite of the entire season.

Now when it comes to coaches' polls, what is the objective? It is to judge the entire season or project who is the best right now OR even who will be the best teams for the playoffs?

In a coaches' poll how do you factor in sit out period transfers, short term injuries, Christmas Break vacation missing players, etc.

I noticed a lot of surprising scores the last two weeks but then when you find out some more information (maybe a kid was missing, maybe a transfer just became eligible to play) it makes more sense. The computer rankings do not take that into account. As a coach who is voting in the poll for your division how do you treat that situation?

Do you "excuse" the games the kids missed or do you say it is the entire body of work for your playoff seeding? The great thing is that most deserving teams qualify for the playoffs and in the end it will be decided on the court, just curious how you think playoff seeding should be determined.
