: : : : I guess my question is....

: : : : Why does this...

: : : : 2015-16: 24-2, 14-0 in league, ranked 257 in state by Max Preps
: : : : 2016-17: 18-7, 10-0 in league, ranked 189 in state by Max Preps

: : : : Equate to just a 11.88 2 year average?

: : : : There are teams with way worse records and way worse MaxPreps ratings, who scored way higher in the 2 year averages.

: : : CIF uses different formula then maxpreps including playoffs performance which means a lot in the formula.

: : To answer the question, for CIF placements, it is strictly on who they play, not their record or ranking. Playing a D1 team, win or lose, is different than playing a D5 team. So even though Foothill Tech has had a few quality opponents, they have also had a lot of games against low division teams. This has hurt their rating for CIF. The combination of some tournament/non league games against lower division teams and their league, which is all D3 or lower, has kept them down division wise.

: This is not in regards to FT, they are a newer athletic program that plays an extremely difficult preseason schedule for their division placement and I imagine will eventually move their way higher, though their league does have many lower division teams. They should be commended for their tough schedule despite being a D4 team and because of it will probably earn themselves a CIF title.

: Now
: Isnít that a flaw in the system considering you allow teams to game the system by the opponents they play. If you play D 5 teams, even if you go 25-0 you still cannot accumulate very many points. A lower division team may actually earn more points to in a loss to a higher division than the team playing them. I think all wins should count for more points than any loss if their is no point spread in the equation. If you add a point difference in the equation a single digit loss to a D1 team could at least be judged differently than a 40 point running clock loss to the same team.

They are ranked #25 in CIF Southern Section on Maxpreps because of a 8-2 record and a solid strength of schedule this year
