: : : : I check this discussion forum from time to time and I canít believe how much negativity surrounds girls basketball. Why are parents criticized for choosing private school over public? Itís a matter of choice and we all have that right to choose freely. So what if players are ďrecruited.Ē Why does that matter, if at the end of the day, the parent is making a decision on what they believe is in the best interest of their child. Many parents chose public school, and thereís nothing wrong with that, but why criticize the parent who chose private?. We all make our own choices with the hopes that itís the best choice for our children. Why are haters criticizing teams who have experienced success (i.e. Ribet)? Is Ribet a GREAT team? Thatís a matter of opinion, but they certainly are doing much better than they have in the past. Why are people criticizing the seniors at Mater Dei; saying their garbage? Why such negativity? If the freshman are outperforming the seniors, then good for them. Some seniors are going Division I and Iím willing to bet that any parent would be ecstatic to have their childís education paid for. Why not celebrate that success? Iím really trying to understand what is everyone gaining through such vicious attacks.
: : : When they say why why, tell em that itís human nature ;)
: : Unfortunately, some adults use youth sports as an opportunity to complete against one another. "My daughter beat your daughter in basketball, therefore that makes me better than you." Once you abandon that paradigm, the way becomes much clearer. We are all participants in the same contest: trying to raise our children right in a sport they love and hopefully getting some financial help towards a college education. Make friends with the parents of kids on the teams you compete against - you'll likely find that they have more in common with you than differences and you'll make some friendships that last a lifetime. And remember: no matter where you go, there you are.
: The same message is posted every few years. This site is what it is. It's actually much better than in the late '90s, early 00s. People actually physically threatening others and at the SBTOC, people were assaulted during the famous Taurasi vs. Mendiolas situation, one that was definitely exacerbated by the postings of the Mendiola family on these very boards.
: You either learn to live with and laugh or you just move on. Most have moved on because girls high school basketball is no longer what it was.
I am new to what happened that time
