: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Going to be moving to the Yorba Linda school district in June from San Jose.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Daughter was going to play at Mitty, but making the move for work reasons.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : I don’t know anything about HS basketball in the area, outside of the “big “ name schools but I looked on MaxPreps and saw that they’ve won like 2 games a year.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Is it a bad program, bad coach? I’d like to keep her in the district but she’s brand new and maybe there are better places that have both higher level basketball and good academics.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Thanks for any info.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Yorba Linda also has two other schools - El Dorado and Esperanza. Esperanza has been in the top ten in the county for the last 2 years or so. El Dorado has a good coach, great program. Definitely changing the culture over there. If your kid is good enough to play for Mitty then I assume all of the Catholic school's in the area are going to be going after her - Mater Dei (santa ana) Orange Lutheran (Orange) and Rosary (Fullerton) Brea just lost their long time legend of a coach, but they have always been pretty good. If your kid is smart, she can also go to Troy (Fullerton). They have an excellent Troy Tech Program!

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Nice bluff post on moving! Is your girl 6 foot 5 too?

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Also look towards south OC and JSerra...3 players currently doing well in D-1 midmajor schools. Great campus/facilities and academics.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : As one of the previous poster mentioned, there are 2 other public schools in the area, El Dorado and Esperanza. Private schools in the area are Mater Dei (but too much drama there), Orange Lutheran and Rosary (CIF and State Champs last year) What year is your daughter and what position does she play or want to play will determine which school is a better choice for her. Please ignore the negative posters. I will try and help you make the right choice for your daughter, I have no skin in the game because my daughter will be graduating this year.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Good Luck on your new job and move to So. Cal.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Not super impressed with Eldo or Espy, especially Espy who I feel underachieves with amount of talent that they have. Eldo is on the way up but I heard that their coach almost left early on over there. Rosary always seems to get the most out of their players, I think that they are a solid pick for a school out that way.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : Thank you Rosary Coach

: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : Orange Lutheran has always been pretty consistent to my understanding. They have good coaches, good school and it doesn't seem like they have as much drama as other places. JSerra is a good school, just far from YL and not a consistent program either. Rosary isn't bad but Coach is a little crazy, they had one really good year last year and have been non-existent so far. Eldo and Esperanza are good choices because you don't have to pay boat loads of money for a high school education.... Most of these private schools are 15k-16k a year. Your best bet, since it sounds like you might be coming in the summer, is to find the right club team. Call around to the locals - west coast premier, cal swish, cal storm, cal sparks.. I know a majority of Esperanza kids play at OC Rhythm. That'll be a good start. Bottom line is that wherever you choose, just make sure that your daughter is going to a place where she feels comfortable and has a good high school experience.

: : : : : : : : : : : Thanks for all the positive responses.
: : : : : : : : : : : No my daughter isn't 6'5. She'll be a freshman next year and is 5'8 currently, still growing hopefully. She's a point guard.

: : : : : : : : : : : Her club coach is helping to find her a new club to play for down there, so hopefully that will help also in regards to area schools.

: : : : : : : : : : : We thought about private school, but being brand new to the area, were hoping to have her go to school with kids from the area also so she can develop a new group of friends. Not easy to make her move right at the start of high school, but hoping that basketball will help ease the transition.

: : : : : : : : : : : Thanks again for the serious replies. New to this forum and there are some crazy posts!

: : : : : : : : : : Take her to Yorba Linda cause she'll play all the time, be the best player on the team, have the most fun there, kids will love her, you won't have the drama you have at the other schools that are just recruiting kids to win, High School is about enjoying your experience and learning. She learn more at Yorba Linda then any where else. If she is good enough she'll play on the top travel ball teams and get all the exposure she needs to get a scholarship. Believe me or suffer the consequences.

: : : : : : : : : In the Trinity League Mater Dei is far and away the dominant school (and a national player to boot)- the other four schools (Rosary, SM, OLu and JSerra) take turns as being the solid #2.

: : : : : : : : : Last Year Rosary was the champion of the "little 4"; for a 3-4 year run up until 2 seasons ago when their 2 D-1 stars graduated JSerra was the leader of the pack. Rosary, OLU and JSerra have very experienced coaches who have been there a long time-SM's coach is in year 3.

: : : : : : : : OC Rhythm is a solid fundamentals club with less pressure on the girls but still competitive. Talk to the directors there. They can help you out.

: : : : : : : agree that OC Rhythm is a good place to start.

: : : : : : I’m new to the forum also. I have twin daughters. They are 14 years old and 6’2. They play point and shooting guard. Both averaged 20 and 23 points last year in Cagastan. Where should I send them in OC? Lol

: : : : : Did you mean Kazakhstan?
: : : : : I asked a serious question and appreciate the thoughtful replies.
: : : : : This kind of post is just trolling idiocy. Thanks for your contribution and lack of geographical knowledge and/or spelling.
: : : : No. I meant what I wrote. I made up a country much like you made up that you’re new and looking to move. Like I said, we get these fishing post at least once a year.

: : : I apologize for some of these idiots that post on here. But my advice if your time permits, is to got to the 2 public schools in the area and watch a game or two and then go to OLu, Rosary for private schools in the area. I'd stay away from MD, it's just not a good environment (too much drama). You might want to check out Troy too. They have a 6'5" freshman this year that I believe will be very good. El Do has a 6'5" center too, but she will be a senior next year. I wish I could speak to you on a more personable level, but these trolls on here just doesn't make it safe to put my personal email and cell on this blog. Good Luck to you again on the new job, new living arrangements and your daughter with HS basketball.

: : LMAO!! I wish I could talk to you on a more personable level! That's awesome, as if your opinion should be held in higher regard than anyone else. Who are you? What do you do? Why should this person real or fake listen to you? What is your background? I mean, if you are some almighty know-it-all why not share your expertise with everyone. Oh, are just like me and the other trolls. You bash and talk trash about others and use various screennames to cover the fact that you are no better than anyone else on this site. You are another person that thinks you are better than everyone else because you say, "Good Luck" and "I hope everyone has a good season." You apologize for the people on this board that can see through the B/S and know when to call someone out.

: : All the advice on this thread is B/S. Everyone is hoping that this kid real or not ends up at their school so they can brag about it later as if they actually had a hand in this family choosing whatever school they actually attend. It is laughable.

: : Also, mentioning OC Rhythm is another joke. If you to play for Esperanza then you have to play for OC Rhythm and kiss the Esperanza coach's ass just to make sure your kid is on varsity. But please tell this family to send their kid to one of the schools mentioned. God forbid should this family actually see through the B/S and realize that every one of the schools mentioned from a basketball standpoint is flawed and should not even be considered. Everyone in Orange County thinks that Orange County is still the hotbed for basketball talent in Southern California, when it is far from the truth. Orange County basketball is one life support and any family of a talented kid knows that, that is why the rich keep getting richer and the wannabes like the schools mentioned in this thread always piss and moan about how it is not far. Boo hoo!

: : Let me ask you this, when was the last time an Orange County school won a CIF Championship in either the Open Division or Division 1AA? That right there should tell you the state of basketball in Orange County and how anybody with any talent should leave Orange County for their own good.
: Remember. The daughter was going to play at Mitty. The best program up north. The fact that the poster mentioned the school is a red flag that it’s a fishing expedition.

yes, my daughter was going to Mitty. No I never said she was a world beater or god's gift to basketball. And yes, we are moving to orange county, for better or for worse, and are hoping to find her a place to play basketball but more importantly, make some new friends and ease what will probably be a tough transition for her. So thanks all for the serious replies. Of course we are going to do our own due diligence and such, but I didn't know anything about the school that we will be zoned for. Which is where I was hoping she would go, and she still might go.
If I was trolling I would ask about places like Mater Dei or whatever "top" programs are down there. I was asking about the local high school, for goodness sakes.
