: : : : : : : Going to be moving to the Yorba Linda school district in June from San Jose.
: : : : : : : Daughter was going to play at Mitty, but making the move for work reasons.

: : : : : : : I don’t know anything about HS basketball in the area, outside of the “big “ name schools but I looked on MaxPreps and saw that they’ve won like 2 games a year.

: : : : : : : Is it a bad program, bad coach? I’d like to keep her in the district but she’s brand new and maybe there are better places that have both higher level basketball and good academics.

: : : : : : : Thanks for any info.

: : : : : : Yorba Linda also has two other schools - El Dorado and Esperanza. Esperanza has been in the top ten in the county for the last 2 years or so. El Dorado has a good coach, great program. Definitely changing the culture over there. If your kid is good enough to play for Mitty then I assume all of the Catholic school's in the area are going to be going after her - Mater Dei (santa ana) Orange Lutheran (Orange) and Rosary (Fullerton) Brea just lost their long time legend of a coach, but they have always been pretty good. If your kid is smart, she can also go to Troy (Fullerton). They have an excellent Troy Tech Program!

: : : : : Nice bluff post on moving! Is your girl 6 foot 5 too?

: : : : Also look towards south OC and JSerra...3 players currently doing well in D-1 midmajor schools. Great campus/facilities and academics.

: : : As one of the previous poster mentioned, there are 2 other public schools in the area, El Dorado and Esperanza. Private schools in the area are Mater Dei (but too much drama there), Orange Lutheran and Rosary (CIF and State Champs last year) What year is your daughter and what position does she play or want to play will determine which school is a better choice for her. Please ignore the negative posters. I will try and help you make the right choice for your daughter, I have no skin in the game because my daughter will be graduating this year.
: : : Good Luck on your new job and move to So. Cal.

: : Not super impressed with Eldo or Espy, especially Espy who I feel underachieves with amount of talent that they have. Eldo is on the way up but I heard that their coach almost left early on over there. Rosary always seems to get the most out of their players, I think that they are a solid pick for a school out that way.

: Thank you Rosary Coach

Orange Lutheran has always been pretty consistent to my understanding. They have good coaches, good school and it doesn't seem like they have as much drama as other places. JSerra is a good school, just far from YL and not a consistent program either. Rosary isn't bad but Coach is a little crazy, they had one really good year last year and have been non-existent so far. Eldo and Esperanza are good choices because you don't have to pay boat loads of money for a high school education.... Most of these private schools are 15k-16k a year. Your best bet, since it sounds like you might be coming in the summer, is to find the right club team. Call around to the locals - west coast premier, cal swish, cal storm, cal sparks.. I know a majority of Esperanza kids play at OC Rhythm. That'll be a good start. Bottom line is that wherever you choose, just make sure that your daughter is going to a place where she feels comfortable and has a good high school experience.
