: : : : : : : : Granada Hills? Elco? OR Birmingham as a surprise?
: : : : : : : The whole league will once again come down to the two El Camino vs. Granada games. Looking at the schedule, this year they play last in the rotation, so it will come down to the last league game.
: : : : : : : I have this as a toss up at this point. Coaching edge to Granada, as I haven't seen enough of ECR in fall to get a read on their new coach. ECR has more talent, but GH has more depth. Throw in that it is an intense rivalry, and it's too close to call at this point. Could easily end in a tie yet again.
: : : : : : : Birmingham will be third and probably is stuck going to Open for playoffs.
: : : : : : : I have Taft fourth, ironically helped by a transfer from Birmingham.
: : : : : : : Cleveland fifth and then Chatsworth, who has a new coach yet again this year.
: : : : : : : 1. GH/ECR
: : : : : : : 3. Birmingham
: : : : : : : 4. Taft
: : : : : : : 5. Cleveland
: : : : : : : 6. Chatsworth
: : : : : : easily GH, it's their season!
: : : : : Granada will not only win league but also city.
: : : : If granada doesn't win city open this year they need to change coaches because every year people say his a great coach and he can't make it to the big game, same for elco, elco will lose their top to players and I don't see them getting better next year, every talented 8th graders are now going private. and I see
: : : : 1. Granada
: : : : 2. Elco
: : : : 3. Burmingham
: : : : 4. Taft
: : : : 5. Cleveland
: : : : 6. Chatsworth
: : :
: : : Change coaches at GH, are you serious? lol, the guy coaches whatever walks in the door and makes them contenders. HE COMPETES WITH TEAMS LIKE FAIRFAX AND PALI WITH A FRACTION OF THE TALENT. Fire the best coach in the city, stay off the site.
: : Granada might have the best coach but Elco is bringing back their entire team basically, including probably the best player in the league. There's something to be said for having experienced players. I'm not sure how good the new coach is but if he's just an average coach they'll be fine. If he's good, then watch out for Elco. Regardless, the real question is if either team is ready to compete with the teams from LA and finally make a championship game and win it all. As for Birmingham, it seems like every year they get picked as a potential sleeper team but they don't really make much noise during the season or playoffs. What's different this year? Not sure if they're really an Open team.
: There could also be an argument made that Granada has the best player in the league. Mitchell is small but fierce. Fierce on defense and a good shooter. Her ball handling skills are the best in the league. You can search high and low and not find any girl that gives as much effort. Just Saying. I think its Granada this year, all the way.,
ECR has the most talent. GH has the most depth. GH has coaching advantage (at least as far as we can tell as of now), but I'm not going to put him in the same league as Phil Jackson. I can't remember the last time they had a "big upset". They beat who they are supposed to. ECR vs. GH games will be toss ups again this year. They know each other too well and neither is significantly better than the other. The each have two of the four best players in the league. Sit back and enjoy the ride!
Birmingham has taken up the GH model of playing together year-round. That will help them. As for being an Open team, unfortunately for them, they may end up there by default due to lack of strong teams.
And as for this being GH's year in City - don't sleep on Carson. They have potential POY in Joseph from Windward, and a strong PG that came from Brea. Plus others. Unfortunately, we won't get a read on them until probably late January as all the transfers won't be eligible until Jan 2.
Here's to a great season for all!
