: : : : : : For the second year in a row, UCLA has been selected by the coaches to lead the Pac12. Last season, UCLA finished a disappointing 4th. It must be noted that this will be the final season for UCLA's heralded #1 class and if there is another disappointing season, Coach Close will have had a #1 class that did not win the conference, did not win the conference tournament, did not get to the Final Four and did not have one player from the group become an AA. That's some serious food for thought.
: : : : : : Biggest drop is Washington which went from 3rd last year to dead last but I believe this is correct. I think Cal is a bit high and USC and Arizona might be a tad low. The team to watch for, I think is Oregon.
: : : : : : 1) UCLA
: : : : : : 2) Oregon tie
: : : : : : 2) Stanford tie
: : : : : : 4) Oregon State

: : : : : : 8) USC
: : : : : : 9) Utah
: : : : : : 10) Colorado
: : : : : : 11) Arizona
: : : : : : 12) Washington
: : : : : Close doesn't know how to beat the big time Coaches!
: : : : A very nice lady but UCLA will probably never reach the top tier with her. She really does seem a lot like Kathy Olivier. Excellent recruiter, everyone likes her but is a mediocre coach. I looked up her record and overall she's .612 and conference she's .602, which is pretty inexcusable. Oliviers record at UCLA was .527, .526.
: : : : She never put distance between her program and USC and Trakh has the potential to put USC in front, which would be very sad.
: : :
: : : I like Oregon, followed by Stanford.
: : : UCLA looks good on paper, but finds a way to lose too much.
: : : Love the way OSU and ASU play - they have really good coaches.
: : : Jury is out on USC. Culture is toxic there for at least one more year. Need some people to graduate.
: : You can never count out Stanford with Coach Tara. Both Oregon and OSU have proven what a really great coach can do to a program. I think Oregon could be a FF team this year. I've heard Coach Trakh has taken control but whether that will change the bad atmosphere remains to be seen but some of the younger players are actually quite happy for the first time. People are also happy at Westwood but they were happy at the start of last season as well. UCLA has a very strong team at all positions and they have good chemistry and they have two of the best players in the nation, Canada and Billings. But both Graves and Rueck are far superior to Close as a coach and also how they've developed a program is better as well. Along with VanDeveer and Turner Thorne, that is the elite coaching staff of the Pac. I think UCLA deserves better but they won't pull the trigger on good enough.
: 1) Oregon
: 2) Stanford
: 3) UCLA
: 4) OSU (If Destiny Slocum is allowed to play this season as has been rumored, they pass UCLA
: 5) WSU
: 6) Cal
: 7) USC
: 8) ASU
: 9) Arizona
: 10) Utah
: 11) Colorado
: 12) Washington
They picked up Fapou Semenbene from Fairfax. I guess a walk-on because her bio is unimpressive. Member of All City four years but never MVP.
An article about Jody Wynn said that other coaches were skeptical about her coaching potential in the Pac and also of the belief that her philosophies would not succeed there. I think the poor showing of Washington in the coaches poll reflects that, as well as the decimation of the team to graduation and transfer. They lost 69 of their 85 points a game and only one returning player averaged over 4 points a game.
I wonder how long they'll let Wynn ride this out. They will have problems for several seasons.
