: : : : : : Explain to me how cabrillo Lompoc last year division 2A record 24-3 and a quarterfinalist drops to division 3AA. Ridiculous.
: : : : : Without looking into at all, if they are 3AA this year, they actually went up one division.
: : : : The formula is basically based upon who you play. So next year schedule teams in divisions lower than you to get into a lower division the following year that has more equity. If the poster is right how could a team get into the playoffs and drop so much? Because they scheduled down a lot of games. So basically the system says if you want to advance at all in the playoffs you schedule down. Problem is no one else wants to schedule up so unless you are one of top teams in your division all the work CIF does to be fair is a waste. Teams around us are still losing in playoffs early because they played some good teams for the experience in non league and it actually hurts them. It will probably take two or three years to get it right because of the heavy emphasis on schedule. Teams winning in a division could move up, teams not winning much could stay in division and teams not winning a playoff game should go down one division regardless of who they played during the season. It's better than enrollment though. Maybe CIF will make it before February.
: : : Actually, Cabrillo technically stayed in the same division... 3AA 2017-18 = 2A 2016-17
: : : With that said, it is hard to believe that a team that split with Division 1 Santa Barbara and went to the 2A quarterfinals isn't at least in "the new" 2A again. I would place them in the top 5 of this division pre-season without a doubt, especially since they return 51 ppg and have twin towers who averaged 16.5 and 13.5 ppg respectively (one of which is the coach's daughter I believe)...
: : : Their schedule is obviously not monstrous, which is why they are in 3AA, but they should be on everyone's radar come February. And I wouldn't want to be headed up there for a playoff match-up..
: : Again, they moved up.
: : This Year = Last Year
: : Division 1 = Open
: : 2AA = 1AA
: : 2A = 1A
: : 3AA = 2AA
: : 3A = 2A
: : Last year they were in the 5th division and this year they are in the 4th.
: This year = Last year
: 8 team Open Division = 16 team Open Division
: 1 = 1AA
: 2AA = 1A
: 2A = 2AA
: 3AA = 2A
: 3A = 3AA
: Last year (if you count the Open division) they were in the 5th highest division, this year when they take the teams out for the Open division they will once again be in the 5th highest division
: 3AA this year is the equivalent to 2A last year.
3AA = 2A... open is open, D1 = 1AA... 2AA = 1A, 2A = 2AA,
So In 3AA this year:
Corona Del Mar dropped from 1AA (1.5 div drop)
Chino & South Hills dropped from 1A (1 div. drop)
8 teams dropped from 2AA (essentially 1/2 drop)
14 teams dropped from 2A (essentially no change)
10 teams from 3AA remained (1/2 bump up)
10 teams moved up from 3A (full division bump)
2 teams moved up from 4AA (1.5 division bump)
CIF disguising the movement a bit is all.. it's only the 2nd year of the equity system so still trying to work out the kinks, but as has been said many times on this board, you will always have
