: : : School boards will do what the public is pressuring them to do....
: : : Principals care about their "approval rating". If parents are putting pressure on admin, they feel the heat and will make changes. All a principal wants to do is protect their $140,000.00 a year job.

: : How many parents are pressuring them to hire better coaches? A dozen? How many parents are pressuring them to improve standardized test scores? Probably 75% and up. Has it done any good? In any event, basketball coaching is really insignificant in the grand scheme of a high school education. And when you're strapped for cash, why should a school dole out money that benefits maybe 20 to 40 kids when they can't even keep their supply cabinets stocked?
: Well I can tell you LAUSD doesn't care about their coaches or teams they give pennies to the coaches and then practically nothing as a budget.

Try being a science teacher when you have nothing on a budget. They get to school at 6, leave at 5 and have to get ready for the next day at home. Most people don't care about the coaches or teams and it's likely that sometime in the next decade, there won't even be sports teams. It's what happens when you don't have money. If you want sports, go to a private. Lots of Catholic schools are fairly inexpensive but I'm sure people will find something to bitch about there as well.
