: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Comments on the team this year? Heard their stacked and loaded

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Yup....they are loaded, as usual.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Yup they are loaded but will not win a CIF Championship, as usual.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : I think they won a CIF chip 3 years ago in
: : : : : : : : : : : : : 2014-2015. That is pretty recent.

: : : : : : : : : : : : Nope, didn't win a championship then and thanks for playing I know nothing about high school girls basketball. Of course I am sure you have no clue what the last thing that Keppel was in the news for...

: : : : : : : : : : : Interesting LMP...I wonder how they got to the CIF State Final game in March 2015 up on Sacramento? I believe you have to win the CIF Regional Championship at the Pyramid in Long Beach to get there. Which produces the plaque and rings all around.

: : : : : : : : : : : And yes....that was unfortunate what happened.

: : : : : : : : : : Oh sorry, I thought winning a CIF-SS Championship is more important or memorable than winning a meaningless regional championship. But wow a regional championship. Just ask Mater Dei or anybody else how it feels to win a regional championship and nothing else. It feels like kissing your cousin. It doesn't feel right.

: : : : : : : : : "meaningless regional championship" - Where I'm sure we can count you as an expert on "kissing your cousin", that first quoted statement negates you as any type of first hand expert on sports.

: : : : : : : : prove my point...without looking name the teams that won the regional championships this past season. Open Division all the way down to Division 5. Go ahead...tell me!! Off of the top of my head I can name almost every team that won a CIF-SS championship. Got their picture in the paper and got to celebrate. I looked and I didn't see much coverage or pictures of teams winning a regional championship.

: : : : : : : : Even when Keppel won their regional championship there wasn't much coverage. So, even the local newspapers look at winning a regional championship as nothing.

: : : : : : : : I will give you another example, Jeff Sink just retired from Brea Olinda. The OC Register listed his accomplishments not once do they mention how many regional championships he won while at Brea. Still want to say that winning a regional championship is more important than winning a CIF-SS championship?

: : : : : : : : But since Keppel still has not won a CIF-SS Championship or a State Championship they are still the same team that beats up on the Almont League but can't do anything in the playoffs but CHOKE!!!

: : : : : : : Your right, until you win one you can't say nothing. Good chance this year though. With a solid roster and a bit of magic and luck, this might be the year.

: : : : : : : You're mistaken, regional title is a bigger accomplishment than CIF. It's a tougher pool of teams. You sound like a novice about the sport and a MK hater at the same time.

: : : : : : You can say all you want but you can't take away what those girls accomplished in that season.

: : : : : LOL! So you are telling me that the teams in the state playoffs are better than the teams in our Open Division? Did you really go there? Wow! You call me a novice but you think that teams from outside of our area down in Division 2 are better than the teams from our Open Division.

: : : : : So you are saying that back in 2015-16 that Mt. Carmel was better than Chaminade or Long Beach Poly? You are truly a moron to make that statement.

: : : : : Just like you are a moron for calling me a MK hater. LOL! I have nothing against Keppel or the kids. What I do have a problem with are loudmouths n that come on here spouting off about a team or things they know nothing about. Why should I hate Keppel, when the team I help coach has beaten them every time we have played them including 2015-16. Why should I hate Keppel or be jealous when my team has won a CIF-SS Championship. Remind me again the last time Keppel played in a CIF-SS finals?

: : : : "meaningless regional championship" Now THAT is a moronic statement. Meaningless to who? You? Who gives a crap what you find meaningful? There are dozens, if not thousands, of championships out there that have more people interested in them than your silly CIF championship. My grandson's 2nd game of the 8u AYSO season is a million times more meaningful to me than your CIF Championship game is. Get a grip.

: : : : Really the most meaningless thing mentioned in this thread is your opinion on what you think is meaningful.

: : : : By the way, yelling from the stands at your daughter's game does not qualify you for "team I help coach". Either you're a coach or you're not.

: : : Last year the Cavs won the Eastern Conference Finals. I don't think they brag about that very often. I would guess losing in CIF, then winning the South Regional, but then losing in the State Finals is a lot like that.

: : Because multi-million dollar athletes playing in the NBA is a lot like high school girls basketball. Nope. The problem is that a lot of parents think so, so of course that filters down to the kids. Shame so many people don't get it. Must be horrible living your life as a failure and having your kids grow up to be failures.

: We are talking about how much of an accomplishment South Regional Championship is. You think it is more than some other people. That is fine. But then you say that I am a failure and my kids are growing up as failures. WOW. You sir are the one that doesn't get it. (And my kids are 13 months and 1 month old, not sure what they have failed at yet but thanks.)

: And for the record, after literally every single win, when we go in the team room we clap and celebrate that win. The whole argument was that Keppel hasn't won a CIF Championship, which is true.

The whole CIF vs. Regional/State thing is kind of weird.

There are pros and cons both ways, and it probably depends on how good "your team" is as to which you prefer.

In all the Sections, there are multiple title winners. But that doesn't take into consideration the strength of the Section. For instance, SS is the strongest Section overall, but, like last year (Clovis West in Open), sometimes there is the best team in another one.

So, you can be the D3 or D4 CIF winner in City or San Diego but then get rolled by a non-winner from a stronger Section in the State Playoffs. And with the way SS stacked the State playoffs with their Open Division rules (lose two playoff games, drop to Div 2 - yes we are looking at you Mater Dei), that is highly probable.

Which brings up a third scenario.

Take the Mater Dei example. You get rolled in CIF playoffs, but then win Regionals in D2, where you should never be playing. The actual D2 winner from another section may be out in first round of State.

So which team would your rather be?

The one that hangs the CIF banner, when no one remembers division or anything else at that 10 year reunion?

Or do you want to lose in CIF but then win Regionals and have a chance to win State?

Again, I would argue it depends on how good you are. Some schools never win CIF titles, while others have their rafters full of them.

No real "right" answer here.
