: : : : With the new association rules, may I conduct after school practices once the school year starts?
: : : Look on cifss.org they have a question and answer about the new rules.
: : Great. Answered all of my questions. I think any team that does not practice in Sept/Oct will be at a competitive disadvantage. Any ideas on how you will approach this? Two days a week? Four? Interested to hear any thoughts on this.
: It depends on gym time. We have to go around volleyball's schedule. Do you want to practice from 6:30-8:30 during the fall? I know I don't. Also, say you go four times a week during fall for 2 hours a day......are you going to burn them out? At public schools, if you have the gym and you have a 6th period, 50 minutes a day plus conditioning after school is fine; you tend to avoid burnout, as in 6th period it is a class (they have to go), and it's not as long.
: I plan on doing conditioning like I always do, and when the volleyball team has an away game I'll jump in the gym.
: However, for big-time programs who go up against big-time programs going for CIF titles, yeah, if you ain't practicing, you're at a competitive disadvantage, Unfortunately enough for me, I'm not at one of those big-time programs. Or, as my wife says, my FAMILY is fortunate because I get to see them more in the fall before I disappear in the winter. I love my wife and kids, and I'd rather spend more time with them than hold practices until 8:00 during the fall.
:What am I missing here. I thought the only difference was that coaches are allowed to coach their teams in fall and spring leagues and fall and spring tournaments. So they don't have to put the balls away after last period or 3 o'clock and do conditioning like in the past. They can conduct practices?
