: : : : : : : : : : : : CIF moved teams this year by making a "sliding scale" for teams. They conveniently moved the criteria by 25 students so Mater Dei would fall into 3AA and miss Brea. Nowhere in the bluebook does it say they have a right to do this. Criteria for Divisions should be the same for a period of years. For example, last year Division 2A was 2274-2450. Mater Dei was at 2294. This year CIF moved it to 2294-2464 which put Mater Dei in 3AA. There was ABSOLUTLEY NO REASON FOR THEM TO CHANGE LAST YEARS SLIDING SCALE. It was to keep Brea and Mater Dei apart. If each year CIF can make their own "scale" then the point system and enrollment is all for nothing. They can manipulate the system to put teams where they want. RIDCULOUS.

: : : : : : : : : : : This is odd because overall enrollments in the LAUSD schools are dropping. If enrollments were growing at a 10% rate across the board, I think the CIF-SS could rationalize this change.

: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : There is no rationalizing. Any school with a 10 to 15 % increase or decrease was switching divisions anyway. The jump would have put them in a lower or higher division. They also put in their bylaws that there can be 40-49 schools in each division which covered any possible need for a sliding scale. Not many teams moved based on points and enrollment. Had they gone on last years scale there would have been plenty of cushion and everything would have been fine. No justification. Now every year we have to worry about where CIF wants to put the scale so teams wont have to move. Completely eliminates point total and enrollment calculation. Whats worse is to move the sliding scale so little (i.e 20 students) makes zero sense. More of a reason to keep Mater Dei and Brea apart since CIF makes so much money off MD and hosts many championships there.

: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Why are you so upset about this? Why would we want the 2 best teams in the state playing each other in sectionals? I wish they could be in different divisions for state as well. I want socal to be represented at the state level by the best teams, even if they move up in divisions. Why should we knock one of these teams out of state competition? Seems dumb to have the real state championship being played in the socal regionals rather than in the state finals.

: : : : : : : : ****

: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Brea and MD in the past may have been good and may be good now. However, to all the teams, coaches and players, step up your game NOW so when you do run across either Brea or MD know that on any given night they can be beat. Everyone knows the real deal with this whole shifting around (UCLA Mar.2008) and CIF should be ashamed of doing this but it is what it is. Let the season began as I await the moment they are beaten and who knows, possibly, loose the chance of either of them going to Sacramento

: : : : : : : Just a reminder that the state championships are not in Sacramento...try Bakersfield.

: : : : : : MD was 2A last year as well. Original poster must have a thing about MD.
: : : : : : Bakersfield is a nice short drive, won't put the southern teams at such a disadvantage.

: : : : :
: : : : : They were 2A last year and 2A this year......AFTER WINNING CIF. Last I checked every team moved up after winning a CIF championship except Brea and Mater Dei. Breas reasoning is legit, MD is a sham

: : : : Listen, you're not going to win CIF this year. That's not what you're goal is suppose to be. Don't you remember the coaches test that you took? You're in it to help students. Just think of all the schools that won't even make it to the playoffs.

: : : Bakersfield is hosting the North South Finals games, but where will the MD vs Brea SS final game be played? Last year it was at UCLA.

: : Well if that's what we are supposed to be in it for, then why don't Kiernan and his staff, and the Sink and his staff have the same motives? Kiernan doesn't care what his kids get out of it. He wants W's, and that's what he is paid for. If Mater Dei cared about kids, especially Catholic kids since they are a Catholic school, at least they were when I attended, then why did they hire him and why does he have financial incentives in his contract? CIF is a completely hypocritical organization. END OF STORY!

: I have no financial incentives in my contract, I am not psid to win games, you do not know me or have any idea what I am about. I would appreciate you not making assumptions about why I coach. Give me a call if you want to know how I do things or what I make.

I know you had no idea, but isnt it a little convenient that CIF slid the scale to 2294 from 2263 last year so your 2280 would fall into 3AA. Obviously you have no part in this but isnt it a little ridiculous that you win 2A with the best team in the nation and then repeat in 2A. The whole point of this system was to move stronger teams up the scale. EVERY WINNER MOVED UP EXCEPT YOU AND BREA (MAXED OUT ON PTS) Which division would you rather play in?
