Free throw shooting coaches have never addressed the fundamental of stability. Coaches talk of balance as it relates to shooting free throws. There is a major difference between Balance and Stability.
Balance is the control of equilibrium and Stability is the resistance to the disruption of equilibrium. I teach stability using a techique call "Free Throws With Sole". Within minutes you will understand and feel stability. In the late 80's a free throw study concluded greater stability is related to higher skill.
