: : : : : Hello, do any of you know of a hs team in OC that has a younger style coach that play team first ball? My son is fairly talented but I've noticed doesn't really do well with older old style coaches for whatever reason, I just want the best 4 years for him possible. If anyone comes to mind please let me know I am new to the basketball scene and was directed to this site thank you

: : : : Keith Wilkinson at JSerra. Early 30's, college assistant coaching background, played at USC.

: : : Garden Grove High School. Say what you will. They send guys to 4 years. They go where their DNA will take them. They hold you accountable, they get you better. Point, this year they beat Westminster High with 7 new transfers that all play "High Club" basketball.

: : :Take a look at Century High School. Their coach is in his mid 20's and has his guys playing well. Wins over Newport Harbor and Valencia even with much less talent. League isn't the toughest, but they haven't lost in it yet.

: Coach Mitchell from Cypress (7th year) has turned Cypress around into a successful North County program. Kids compete hard for him.

What they've done at Century the last 3-4 years is amazing. ALL local kids that, honestly, schools outside Santa Ana wouldn't be trying to go "get." Coach Young set an amazing foundation and now Hernandez has kept it going. They were a missed-free throw and a block-out away from the CIF finals 2 years ago. It is an unbelievably tough city to coach in as the off-the-court situations that pop up are things most of the rest of OC would never deal with. The cool part is they hold the kids accountable. It's easy to say, "yeah, but their home life is a mess, give them a break." Instead, they hold the kids to a better standard- even if it means losing a game or two to teach a lesson.
Yes, the Orange League is WAY down, but Century dominates and has also played a decent non-league schedule.
