: : : : : : : : : With the divisions out, who are the early favorites?
: : : : : : : : can you provide the link
: : : : : : : https://cifss.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/WEB_BOYS-BB-Divisions_1920.pdf
: : : : : : The Trinity League with the exception of Servite is all Division 1. Servite is 3-AA. How does that coach keep his job?
: : : : : 1-No clue, depends on open division draws. Rough for a few of those public schools grouped in there like Cypress and Trabuco.
: : : : : 2AA-Pick your private school: RHP, SGA, SCC, Fairmont Prep. Again tough grouping for some of those publics that are stuck in there.
: : : : : 2A- Pacifica Christian if all players are eligible, Ribet, and Sonora are probably the top teams.
: : : : : 3AA- Servite, Paraclete?
: : : : : 3A- Anybody, very equal.
: : : : : 4AA- St. Margaret's with what I assume will be some magical transfers showing up.
: : : : : 4A- A bunch of not that good teams from here down, so whichever school had a good class come together in the past couple of years.
: : : : Servite and Paraclete are very good, but Providence has to be the favorite in 3AA.
: : : : Sadly, 3AA may not have enough at-large bids for more than 1-2 teams who finish in the lower half of their leagues, so Paraclete and Servite may be fighting for one spot.
: : : Sadly, Servite constantly loses to too many lower level public schools every year.
: : Yeah that was the issue last season in that divison as well. Servite should be better this year if they return their core guys. And if they can steal a league win, that would help greatly.
: It would help them in the polls, certainly.
: But if there are no at-large spots available (in other words, 32 Automatic Qualifiers), the only way Servite can make the postseason is by finishing 3rd in the Trinity League.
: Paraclete has to finish 4th or higher in Gold Coast to guarantee them a spot, which probably means beating Campbell Hall and Crossroads. Probably a tad easier than defeating JSerra, Santa Margarita, and OLu, however.
Much is made of trinity, Gold Coast and mission private leagues. There are numerous public school leagues that have similar issues. Baseline, Big 8 and also some other privates like the Del Rey league. Teams play big schedules in league and sometimes out of it and get penalized for it. .500 rule stinks as does capping divisions at 32. Rewards teams in bad leagues and teams who donít play a quality schedule. There are too many factors to think about. Some schools have half the amount of students than others in their league, draw from very different areas, focus on academics or just play their local kids. Too many quality teams at home during playoffs.
