: : : : With the addition of two more high profile players, Sierra Canyon has almost assured itself in a place in the Open Division and State playoffs and a probable number one seed at that, but at what price?
: : : : With the blatant recruiting of players from across the country, why is Sierra Canyon even allowed to compete against Southern Section schools? A few years ago CIF banned teams from playing prep schools like Oak Hill, Findlay Prep, IMG, etc and I believe that Sierra Canyon should be planked in the same category.
: : : Completely legal just following the plan laid out by Mater Dei football and basketball for several years.
: : Someone was going to figure out there was a market for a "superteam" somewhere in west ...OC (for Mater Dei) was too far for someone living in west LA or Encino to go.
: : You may also want to keep in mind that there's lot of NBA spawn at Sierra Canyon -therefore full-tuition parents.
: : The issue was finding a place where the logistics worked-Sierra Canyon is 'against the flow" if you are coming from Encino or West LA; also accessible from places like TO/Westlake (Sherwood) via 23/118.
: : Don't know if it will work for football there - need much bigger body wise. They are definitely competitive, but to be truly D1 elite, that's another story. Other options in area that make sense (Oaks Christian in particular) are more established. Notre Dame will be again when Kevin Rooney finally retires. Loyola can be if they want to be.
: : Not convinced that Chevalier is in the same class as McKnight coaching-wise. Time will tell.
: Gathering a group of elite players is a talent in itself but getting them to play as a cohesive team presents other problems.
: Chevalier has had a tendency to get out coached but he is just getting familiar with dealing with all the personalities of these players so he may be able to settle into coaching his team rather than nursing egos.
Pro athlete's kids are often easier to coach than others-dad tends not to interfere with the coaches as much-the kid will just transfer if there's a problem.
The fact that LeBron's son or Kobe's daughter is playing for you tis an endorsement of what you are doing. They have watched you work and will let you do your job.
