: Who has the better coaches typically? A private school came up to us and asked if we would be interested in their school. After looking into Maxpreps, they were average last season. We live in a district where the public school was very good. Some people are telling us the private school will have better opportunities because they are higher profile.

: Thoughts?

As a public school coach, the biggest thing I can determine to be the difference is the resources available to a private school's program. Resources would not just be financial, but also the flexibility of a private school vs a public school in schedules, etc.

In terms of coaching, there are great public and private coaches. The stigma of poor private coaches I think revolves around the fact that these guys are paid to be coaches(at least for the high profile schools), so the expectations of them are higher than a public school's. When you see a trinity league school get outcoached by a public school, there is reason for concern since these guys are supposed to be professionals.

I would suggest your son go where he will be happiest. Most players are discovered via club, and then during their recruitment the HS coaches are brought into the mix. Plus, if he can play a lot at the public, that is always worth more in my opinion.
