: : : : UCLA’s hiring today of Mick Cronin scream how little the Westwood administration cares about their basketball program and maybe more about the culture within the athletic department.
: : : : In Cronin they get a coach who has had marginal success in the mid-major basketball community and a coach with no ties to either the school, the West Coast or the PAC12.
: : : : Here are 10 others who should have been pursued by UCLA ...
: : : : Luke Walton - probably available this weekend and they should have at least waited
: : : : Earl Watson - Bruin grad; would relate better than Cronin
: : : : Mark Gotfried - West Coast connections that are better than most
: : : : Reggie Theus - SoCal basketball royalty
: : : : Bobby Hurley - brings passion and a family history of coaching success
: : : : John Schyer - next successful coach from Coach K’s tree
: : : : Myles Simon - Mater Dei grad with PAC12 credentials
: : : : Larry Eustachy - veteran coach - great recruiter with West Coast ties
: : : : Kevin Ollie - another black coach who would relate well with player; AAU ties as well
: : : : Marty Wilson - former Pepperdine head coach and now one of the top assistants in PAC12
: : : Generally, I agree with many of your preferred suggestions. Also, let's not forget that Kevin Ollie was from Crenshaw High before he went to play and coach for UConn.
: : Watson doesn't have his degree. Must have a degree to coach in division 1. Same reason, JKidd can't coach in college
: Wow, I didn't realize either of those facts about Watson and Kidd.
I don't believe a former USC Coach had a degree. I believe that is a preference not a rule. If they want you bad enough you may be able to get in.
