: : : : : Just saw on the Vanderbilt message blog that Marvin Menzies is being interviewed for the head coaching job it also said that he was flying from Texas after meeting with Jamie Dixon to come to Vanderbilt for his second interview
: : : : Great coach and better person. He will land on his feet after trying to fix that grease fire that is UNLV Hoops. He should never have been fired and had started to recruit his kind of player. Now back to square 1 for the Rebs.
: : : Happy for MM!
: : Jerry Stackhouse is probably a lock for this job. Even though he has zero college coaching experience, look at who the new AD is at Vanderbilt: Malcolm Turner, former president of the NBA G League, the same league that Stackhouse coached the Raptors 905 to two consecutive championship appearances (winning one of those, and COY too).
: : As someone on one of the Vandy sites pointed out, "We're now living in the NBA Jam era of College Basketball coaching. All of these guys are now college coaches, so why not Stackhouse too?
: : Patrick Ewing
: : Penny Hardaway
: : Dan Marjerle
: : Donyell Marshall
: : Walter McCarty
: : Aaron McKie
: : Chris Mullin
: : Terry Porter
: : Damon Stoudamire
: : Menzies is a great guy, but this isn't the job he's going to get. Stackhouse is reported in multiple Tenneesee newpapers and in Vandy websites, to be negotiating the terms of his contract right now.
: : All of these coaches teams are avg. to below avg. Portland is terrible, similar to travel ball coaches coaching high school teams.
One has to have a sharp mind to see a true basketball player. Most only can see height, speed, quickness, ball handler, shooter, etc.... Only a man that can not be bought and see's with clarity, understands merit is key to success. I will take a fundamentally sound player over a one-two dimensional athletic guy any day of the week.
