: : : Why is the game officiated so differently by different by each officials sections. A foul is not always a foul. From South OC to Long Beach to inland Empire to Pasadena the game is called so different. When I believe the officials in high school basketball have a tremendous hand in the outcome of the game dont we need a more unified view on how the game is called.

: : You are on to something here however I will make the other argument. I would counter with that the game is played very differently in different regions as well. Orange County refs call a lot of hand checking and impeding motion fouls while City officials do not. If you see more packed in defense and zones for an entire season versus up and down fast play with a lot of hand checking, arm bars and physical perimeter defense it's just natural that the games will be called differently. It's why you should always play outside of your region during a tournament and non-league games. It helps you understand how the game may be called differently and it's on the coaches and players to adjust. Is that the right way you may ask? No. But it't the reality of the situation. Thankfully during playoffs the games are officiated from officials outside of the region than the two teams come from. Most regions protect their home teams. The OC is probably the toughest area to get a fair call.

: Very well said. I completely agree with both posts.

The game is officiated differently from unit to unit because each unit has its own instructional program with its own instructional chair and instructional staff. While we may all receive instruction based off the same rulebook, philosophies may differ for this reason. Not to mention, individual officials differ in the way they call a game within in a game. An old school official who has been around will call it differently than a young official still keeping up with current philosophies and training.

However, the previous statement "most regions protect their home teams" is completely false. Some officials are obviously more capable than others, and we all miss calls, some more frequently than others.. but we don't have a dog in the race, and couldn't care less who wins the game, as long as we give our best and perform to the best of our ability.
