: Can someone explain to me how the tiebreaker rules for Open Division make sense?
: Should there be a three-way tie for first in the pools, the lowest seed will advance. CIF has put in some elaborate window dressing ('points calculation'), but the bottom line is that the lower rated seeds will advance.
: For instance, if Sierra Canyon loses to Corona Centennial, and Mater Dei wins, there would be a three way tie at the top of that pool. The winner would be the #7 seed, Mater Dei, even though they had lost to the highest seed #2 Sierra Canyon.
: When was the last time that the lower rated seeds got any advantage? Why are the lower rated seeds getting this edge?
: Also many of these games cannot be played at the higher seed's home court, due to CIF gym size requirements.
: This means that the high seed gets only the benefit of wearing white uniforms. No home games, and they get the shaft in the tiebreaker.
: Who has ever heard of such a crazy thing? There are PhDs in Game Theory that are laughing at the CIF right now.
: If it were me, I'd be pushing super hard for my team getting the #7 or #8 seed. Wait, you mean that Bishop Montgomery and Mater Dei got those seeds already?
Points system will come into play in Pool B if Centennial and MD win. Creating 3 way tie situation with three 2-1 teams in the pool. And Centennial would advance based on points Centennial - 8, MD - 9, SC - 13.
Ultimately, SC and Centennial control their own destiny. Winner goes to the CIF Championship. Even if MD wins they will not have enough points to surpass Centennial (assuming CC wins) because of the 3 way tie breaker rules. MD gets the shaft, watching the team they beat on their home court play for the Championship.
In Pool A the point systems will not come into play because there can only be a 2 way tie...Considering that only 2 teams will win and lose on Friday creating only two 2-1 teams in the pool and the 2 way tie breaker is the head to head.
Every team in pool A has a chance and no team fully controls their own destiny. Whoever wins on Friday must have the team they beat win in order to advance....
If RC wins, they must have Etiwanda win (RC beat Etiwanda H2H)
If RV wins, they must have BM win (RV beat BM H2H)
If Etiwanda wins, they must have RV win (Etiwanda beat RV H2H)
If BM wins, they must have RC win (BM beat RC H2H)
