: Why is the game officiated so differently by different by each officials sections. A foul is not always a foul. From South OC to Long Beach to inland Empire to Pasadena the game is called so different. When I believe the officials in high school basketball have a tremendous hand in the outcome of the game dont we need a more unified view on how the game is called.
You are on to something here however I will make the other argument. I would counter with that the game is played very differently in different regions as well. Orange County refs call a lot of hand checking and impeding motion fouls while City officials do not. If you see more packed in defense and zones for an entire season versus up and down fast play with a lot of hand checking, arm bars and physical perimeter defense it's just natural that the games will be called differently. It's why you should always play outside of your region during a tournament and non-league games. It helps you understand how the game may be called differently and it's on the coaches and players to adjust. Is that the right way you may ask? No. But it't the reality of the situation. Thankfully during playoffs the games are officiated from officials outside of the region than the two teams come from. Most regions protect their home teams. The OC is probably the toughest area to get a fair call.
