: : : : : : : How on earth were Summit and Barstow matched up first round in 3A? Who does these seedings? Seems like every division there are a lot of question marks. Can we stop rewarding doing well in bad conferences??Third in the trinity or baseline is better than winning a lot of other leagues.

: : : : : : Here's what happened. Coaches who are confused about seeding rules voted Corona #9, however Corona finished behind Norco in league. Norco wasn't ranked in the polls. CIF rules forbid a team to be seeded ahead of anyone they finished behind in the same league (even if both are at-large). So, Corona had to be replaced. CIF chose Summit to curtail excessive travel for Barstow.

: : : : : : Ironically, it now seems that Summit gets a better draw/higher seed than Kaiser, despite finishing behind Kaiser in league. CIF should've put Santa Fe in Corona's spot instead of Summit.

: : : : : Corona was #1 in Div.3A at one point. Went 18-1 out of League. Play in a tough League. They get to go to League Champ defending CIF Champ St. Bonaventure 1st round and if win go back up to Santa Barbara 3 days later, but they were worried about the 8 win Barstows excessive travel!?
: : : : : System is flawed. Needs re-vamping. Enough with the "this team finished in this place so HAS to play this place". Reward the regular season as a whole. Summit went 2-14 and would be 0-10 in Corona's League. Fact..

: : : : Corona would host Santa Barbara in the second round, but won't beat St. Bonaventure anyway. Blame the coaches for not voting Norco higher, they swept Corona. Corona fell apart down the stretch, and lost the 2nd half by 30 to Pacific, a good but not great team.

: : : : I agree the system needs revamping. Stop letting unscrupulous and/or ignorant coaches vote and cut a deal with Ned Freeman or Kenneth Massey to rank teams using algorithms. Calpreps did a great job with HS basketball when it was around, and Massey's JUCO ratings are spot-on.

: : : knew of a girls team that had to go to Barstow from south OC, then when they won went to Santa Barbara 48 hours later. Won both, had next 2 rounds at home, lost in semis. If you are good enough-it won't matter.

: : Very true, that happens often in smaller divisions.

: : Another problem with 3A was, there are no 3A playoff teams within 70 miles of St. Bonaventure, and none within 102 miles of Santa Barbara (aside from each other).

: St. Bonaventure. was the CIF Runner-up IJS

The same coaches that voted Corona #1 never ranked Norco all year. They were just going off MaxPreps when they overrated Corona, who had Corona #24th nationally at one time. Corona never was a top 8 team in the division. MaxPreps has been inaccurate since Ned Freeman stopped doing basketball rankings for them to plagiarize.

Back to 3A, Norco swept Corona, Corona drops to #9, but Norco still wasn't ranked. Corona should be in the same conversation as Norco, a borderline ranked team. Virtually every unseeded team had a better January than Corona, and Corona may not be the most dangerous unseeded team. There aren't many easy outs in the first round.

Valencia of Placentia was another team who swept a league rival, finished ahead of them, and was ranked below them in 3A. Pacifica was tied for 16th last week even after being swept in league by Valencia, who was never ranked once all season. Voters need to do their research and read the dang bulletin, or unranked Summit gets a home game against one of the weaker teams in the division.

2019's 3A is deeper than last season, and the top 2 are much better.
