: Alemany (15-15 1-6 in league) - Has Alemany been a disappointment or did everyone expect them to do, or not do, what they did? I didn't expect them to be great. But I didn't expect them to be as bad as they were.

:
: Loyola (21-6 5-1) and Crespi (23-6 4-3) - Neither team are talent laden. Neither team has a future college big or guard. Neither team backs down. These kids play hard and play together. In my opinion they over achieved.

:
: Birmingham (15-10 7-0) - I saw 1/2 of their game against Harvard Westlake and all of their game against Taft. Jack Pollon has been touting this team all summer. Not because of basketball but because he has friends on the team. So most people shrugged. But the transfers that the program took in play well together and play hard. They have 1-2 future D2 guards and the team plays together. I think that Birmingham is going to be good for a while.

:
: Calabasas (19-9 7-1) - Coach Palarz is more comfortable in Calabasas than he was at Chaminade and it shows. They did not play a competitive schedule by any means. But they're young and it's easy to see the potential there. They have a freshman (Llyod) who's a definite D1 player. They question is "does he stay at Calabasas" or "is Calabasas warming him up for Sierra Canyon?"

:
: Village Christian (12-15 3-6) - Not only the record bad. But this is a team that Marvin Adams (coach for 1 month) hand recruited. Adams left Village for a major upgrade to be Director of Basketball operations at Fresno State. So one would assume that he spotted talent and left Village with a team ready to compete. Well... long story short... expect a change.

: Any other surprises?

You're wrong, Calabasas didn't play a soft schedule. In non-league games they played Bishop Montgomery, Taft, SGA, Heritage Christian, Campbell Hall, and Redondo Union. This Friday they play Crespi - who did play a soft non-league schedule - in their first playoff game.
