: There are not that many really good programs/coaches at the High School level. You get what you pay for and for the most part the better coaches are all at the collegiate level. Also high school teachers must be accredited and are scrutinized, measured and held accountable but not so much for coaches. Basically as long as you don't have a criminal record you are eligible to coach. What has made it even tougher is the change in CIF rules a few years back where kids can transfer and not have to sit out a year, it is not unusual to see kids who play for 4 schools in 4 years and coaches come and go. There are good ones of course and it depends where you live. e.g. My kids didn't go there but I hear the Sonora coach and program is pretty good. Where are you considering?

: : My son can play and needs to go to school where there is a good High School Coaching Staff! Have heard so many bad stories about High school Programs. So many issues and most High School Coaches do not get paid for Coaching Basketball. I understand they our Teachers, but what has happened to the good Basketball Programs? So many people tell me the Varsity Coaches do not care. Then have young assistants or ones who have no club about Basketball.

HS basketball coaches come and go - biggest change ive seen in the last 10-15 years is there are more "walk-on" coaches than ever before. Private schools have some good ones and they can pay/afford to hire the good ones more so than public schools. And I agree, kids today transfer schools too easily in order to follow a favorite coach. It happens a LOT.
