: : : : : : What happened to the Fullerton Head Coach?
: : : : : He walked away before the season ended.
: : : : He and the administration didn't see eye to eye on a number of things.
: : : Huntington Beach & Fountain Valley both could be opening i heard
: : My son can play and needs to go to school where there is a good High School Coaching Staff! Have heard so many bad stories about High school Programs. So many issues and most High School Coaches do not get paid for Coaching Basketball. I understand they our Teachers, but what has happened to the good Basketball Programs? So many people tell me the Varsity Coaches do not care. Then have young assistants or ones who have no club about Basketball.
: There are plenty of schools with good coaching staffs, stop being dramatic. There are plenty of consistent programs and yes, the coaches are compensated (though always arguable for whether compensation is anywhere near what it should be for the hours). Of course there are poor coaches and programs, but typically that is due to socioeconomic issues present which makes it difficult to attract a qualified coach. Rarely you do see a coach like Coombs from Century/Godinez who is a great coach but decides to stay in an environment like that in Santa Ana. To me, the biggest issue is the watering down of talent due to all of the private schools hoarding players because parents place a higher value for their son to sit the bench there instead of being a significant contributor at their home school. People want to claim how far the quality has fallen, put the kids back to their home schools and you'll see a dramatic shift. It's not a criticism of privates as much as an explanation for why talent levels are so spread out. The good public schools are able to retain their local players while also being a draw for any potential players whose families have the means or need to relocate and want to a quality program. You name where you are and I can tell you which programs with good coaches are in that geographic area.
Having been a High School Coach and knowing the best guys in Orange County its true to respect Coach Coombs. He always has been one of the best in the High School Game.Yosh at Valencia wins with little talent. Mark Hill at Esperanza has done a very good job. Nate Harrison always wins and demands alot from his players! Rich Boyce wins every year at Edison and is a Athletic Director, as well. Ed Prange has not talent, but does a good job. Coach Flemming at Laguna Beach is limited on players and enrollment, but finds away.
