: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : I was at this game. Wow. Did foothill whiff on their coaching selection. They donít run anything and donít play hard. Itís a bad combination. He looks lost and if my son was headed there, Iíd strongly think about going somewhere else. Heís a club guy and it shows.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Club coaches canít get it done. Also this guy too young .

: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Are there any good high school coaches who are club coaches?

: : : : : : : : : : : : : Who are the best public school coaches who don't have a club team

: : : : : : : : : : : : The previous coach is not coaching anywhere this season. Maybe they can get the old coach to return? I am sure the new coach is working hard, but the results are troubling for a school that was so consistent during the prior coaches tenure.

: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : They need to get a coach that has experience coaching at the high school level and not someone from the AAU circuit. Foothill has solid talent, but the wrong coach to lead them. Wouldn't be shocked if the got rid of him by the end of the season.

: : : : : : : : : : That is why I bring up the previous coach. Two CIF Titles at a public school not previously known for any kind of boys basketball success would be a huge lift for the program.

: : : : : : : : : The previous coach left due to personal health reasons. Not sure if he would be willing to come back. I agree they need someone who has the experience and can get the best out of the kids he has.

: : : : : : : : Having A.A.U/Club Coaches trying to do Club and High School never works. Joedy Gardner Fired at J-Serra, since they paid him and he wanted to make money doing Club, train, and try go coach his High School Program. They paid him well! Fountain Valley, Los Alamitos, and Westminster making money with Club and not developing their players. All 3 Programs use to be good. Hire a Coach who wants to build a Program and put all his effort and time into it!

: : : : : : : : Maybe Fountain Valley, Los Al & Westminster are not good because those coaches are not good to begin with. Has nothing to with them running a club program. They donít win competitive AAU games either. A good coach will have success at any level. You just have to hire the right one.

: : : : : : These ADs need to do a clear background check on these coaches resumes before bringing them on board. Sad to see these programs around OC go down the drain like this

: : : : : I wouldnít assume an AAU coach could not successfully run a high school basketball program. However, running a high school program at a high level is a full time job. Adding into those responsibilities coaching an AAU team is time spent away from your high school players and program. Not only physical time commitments, but also a draw on intellectual time to think, plan, review, etc. We arenít talking about guys that only coach games during NCAA viewing period. These guys are coaching club games at other times. I think high school coaches should develop feeder programs, especially public school coaches that bring together attendance area middle schoolers and introduce them to high school coaching. Use of lower level coaches in this capacity is a way to not only develop your future, but also develop your younger coaches.

: : : : JSerra hasn't gone that route since firing Gardner...current coach Wilkinson has a D1 playing/assistant coach background (USC/UC Riverside)

: : : Coach Wilkinson is a smart guy and developing Players and doing a good job Coaching! He will have some of his Players play on good Club Programs and Coach them with his Coaches! No need to waist time and do a bad Feeder Program. Never seen one feeder work in 10 years. Its all about making money for the lower level Coaches and stealing parents money.

: : : Will be just as bad next year. Need a change !

: So who would you want? Remember that the issue with Van Cleave before was that he couldn't get a job on campus, so he left. It's a public school and most want their head coach to be a teacher on campus. So with that being said, who would you want and how would you entice that coach to come? You're not a private school who can just throw money at it.

First off, I don't know if Coach Van Cleave is interested in returning, but if he is and they need a coach, that would be the direction I would want them to go. While a teacher is optimal at a public school it would take a veteran teacher/coach to come to close to the resume Coach Van Cleave has and it is unlikely a veteran teacher will leave for a new school district. Frankly, there are only a couple of coaches in the county whose resumes are stronger than Coach Van Cleave and it is unlikely they would leave the programs they have built.
