: Marmonte League talent is down this year. But here are some predictions (feel free to disagree):
: 1. Calabasas - they have two legit D1 players (reigning league MVP Max Cheylov and stud freshman Ramel Lloyd), good role players, and the best coaching staff in league. Their schedule is tougher than any other Marmonte team. Not as strong a group as last year but they can still run the table.
: 2. Westlake have an experienced PG (Bryce Howard) and some good support players (Kyle Maclean, Bryce Howard) but no stars. They're not big or tough enough to beat Calabasas.
: 3. Newbury Park - Matt Solomon (high level D2 player) will carry this team past most other Marmonte teams. They play hard and have some shooters (Nick Demelfi first among them) but they're young and lack height. They played a very soft pre-league schedule which won't help.
: 4. Thousand Oaks - Hunter Thorne and Justin Stanzianzo have been solid but TO lacks size and athleticism. Well-coached but the horses can't run fast enough to catch the top teams.
: 5. Oaks Christian - a disastrous season so far, with a star freshman, after being completely accommodated ( he was shooting 25-30 times per game), transferring out mid-season. Looks like a team in complete disarray. Will Oaks ever be a serious hoops school?
Oaks Christian is still far better than you think. They still have a shot at league as the Miller boys have taken the reins, and a couple SOP guys have been cleared. I'd slide them up to 2nd.
