: : My kid plays at a middle school and their court is extremely slippery. Iíve been around the game for 40+ years and itís the worst court in terms of traction that Iíve ever been on. My buddy's kid played there a couple years ago and I know it was a problem then as well.

: : Iíve grabbed the gym mop myself and swept it prior to games, but itís still quite slippery. I actually think it to be a bit dangerous. As they have volunteers coaching the team and not a very strong program, I imagine there is nobody there advocating for a change. My hunch is that some district maintenance crew just slaps whatever wood floor finish theyíve been using for years without any regard for its athletic use and need for traction.

: : Coaches, could you share how your gym floors are maintained so I might be able to suggest a plan or product? Any advice here would be welcome, as Iíd like to encourage a change before someone gets hurt.

: Complain to the district that it is a safety hazard and they need to have someone come out an evaluate the floor. Say your kid slipped and fell, which im sure he has already. Mention you would rather have a safe place for the kids to play rather than a lawsuit. (The district would too) I'm sure that they will comply and at least look into it and either clean it or replace it.

Until the floor issue is addressed, get some gym floor sticky sheets (aka traction mats)
