: : : : 3 teams are in finals. Awesome league! Congratulations to SJB, MD and Olu to make it to CIF finals.

: : : You realize that CIF sets that up almost every year. Makes sure that the Trinity League gets taken care of in the playoffs. Mater Dei was better than any of the teams in Division 1 but not good enought for the Open Division. The same with Orange Lutheran. Good school but can't compete with the elites and never will. I am willing to bet that CIF made sure that the cut line between Division 1 and Division 2AA would favor some teams and Orange Lutheran was one of them.

: : MD, SJB, JS and SM are top D1 teams no doubt. OLu still to small in area to be a sold D1 with Canyon, Foothill, Villa Park to name a few around local area. Also, not everyone has the money nor is Faith based to want to send their kids so D2 is about right for Olu. Kinda stuck in middle. MD really picked it up end of year. Graduation taking a lot from OLu this year.

: Size of school has no bearing on placement. Ol will be D! next season. The following schools will most likely be dropped be dropped. San Clemente, Santa Clarita Christian and Gardena Serra Remember that the current season will account for 70% of their competitive equity score for next season.

Enrollment has nothing to do with it, but CIF's attempt to provide competitive equity is flawed. There is no factor to take into account the amount and quality of transfers schools get between seasons. With no attendance areas and foreign student enrollment options not available to the public schools, the privates dominate the off-season market. Private schools should have their own 2 playoff divisions. An open division can still exist to allow the best public schools to compete against schools that build their rosters similarly. Teams should be placed in an division based on their current season ranking. Anything else is a misrepresentation of where a school should be placed in the environment that high school basketball has become.
