: : : : : : Just curious why a school with so much potential and so much tradition is SOOOOOO mediocre now-a-days. Last year the hoop team couldn't win a league game (maybe they got 1 I can't recall)
: : : : : : Their baseball team lost a WILD CARD game and didn't make the playoffs and now their football team is 0-2 with the possibility of going 3-7, 0-4 overall.
: : : : : : Why are they so mediocre? They should be getting TONS of high quality student-athletes. Time for a change at the top? Time to clean house?
: : : : : So glad that you posted this. You are spot on. Notre Dame needs all kind of changes at the top from President to Principal to Athletic Director to Coaches. This is not 1990 anymore. You need to take your programs in a different direction. Spend some money on coaches and players. Hire an AD that is not a coach to make sure you are competing in all sports. Stop hiring sub par coaches in everything except Football and give your other teams a chance to compete.
: : : : "Spend some money on ..... and players"
: : : : we talking South Bend or Sherman Oaks?....wow
: : : EXACTLY.. that is EVERYTHING that is wrong with HS sports. If your school isn't going out and "spending money on players.." you are considered a loser. Integrity makes no difference. It's an embarrassment.
: : The very unfortunate thing is that there are many adults who feel that winning games is the ONLY thing that High School sports is about. They will proudly state that coaches and administrators who dont make every effort to cheat, should be removed. They equate cheating CIF and buying players to having courage. Its really sad for the kids ultimately, because this mentality is being passed on to the next generation.
: This comes up all the time. ND used to be a power in many sports. Now, it seems to be football (sometimes), baseball, track, girls volleyball, etc.
: Last year's hoops team was playing well and winning before Williams got hurt. He played in very few if any league games. He's a top 30 player in his class. Hard to lose that.
: Anyway, the issue with ND is that they don't give out money to athletes unless it's actually needed. The simple reason is unlike many private schools, there is a huge waiting list to get in. As long as their sports are somewhat competitive, that is fine with them. You can agree with it or not, but that's just the reality of the situation and it has been that way for years and years.
Norte Dame cares about football and baseball. They dgaf about basketball. I'm surprised that Williams went to, and stayed at, Norte Dame.
Notes Dame hoops is parent run.
