: : : : : So... some guy says that Santa Clarita Chr is a top 10 team in SoCal. I disagree. Here's my list of better teams. (I have more.) Where do you think that I'm wrong?
: : : : : Sierra Canyon
: : : : : Bishop Montgomery
: : : : : Harvard Westlake
: : : : : Mater Dei
: : : : : Cantwell
: : : : : Mayfair
: : : : : Long Beach Poly
: : : : : JW North
: : : : : ECR
: : : : : Oak Park
: : : : : Etiwanda
: : : : : Centennial
: : : : : Westchester
: : : : : Fairfax
: : : : : St. Anthony's
: : : : : Norte Dame (yes I said it)
: : : : : Rancho Christian is going to be very very good and little Mobley might be a top 3 pick in the NBA soon. Taft is still good. Colony High is going to be solid. St Anthony lost their top big to Bishop Montgomery. EL Camino is going to be down. Oak Park looked bad this summer got beat by Shalhavet. Yes Notre Dame is a top team and Williams might be a future 1st round pick. SCC will be good and is on the bubble of being a top 10 team.
: : : The younger Mobley is an incredible talent for his class, but why label him as a top 3 pick in the NBA so soon? He and his brother have yet to lead their team to a CIF Championship, What is he going to do at the next level? I am not trying to knock the kid, I see the potential you are talking about. With that being said, for the purposes of this discussion, I think Rancho Christian should be a top ten team in SoCal this season. Santa Clarita Christian is just another BS small private school that has recruited a group of AAU kids with some talent. (See Village Christian) Where will that program be in 5 years? If we are still talking about them in 5 years, ok. They are a talented group of high school players, but they donÔŅĹt have what it takes to compete with the top teams in SoCal.
: : The Mobley brothers are good but predicting them in the nba is silly. The same with Zaire at Notre Dame. But Rancho Chr is up there & a top 10 team. Santa Clarita Chr isnt'. They're not a group of good AAU kids. They're solid local high school players who wanted guaranteed winning seasons so they all teamed up at a small school in a low division. That's fine. But let's not call them top 10 or even top 20 in the area.
: If we're discussing top 10 teams that we're talking about players that's there now. If we're talking about programs then we have to look at players, coaches and administration.
: Good & rising program:
: Sierra Canyon is all in on either being good or perceived as good.
: Harvard Westlake will be consistently good as a program because the admin and coach are aligned.
: St. Anthony, Coach Caveness is doing a great job. He's built it up, no reason it'll change under his guidance and administration is on board. He does right by his players.
: Crossroads is about to be a major program. They'll give Lebron the kids to build.
: Mater Dei let's the coach get who he wants. But the players are never prepared for college.
: JW North
: Long Beach Poly coaches gets the most out of their players
: Bishop Montgomery has good coaches and administration is aligned with atheletics.
: St. Bernard, growth every year and has some really good coaches.
: Notre Dame actually put a focus on basketball and turning things around.
: Bad programs:
: Alemany gives Coach Meeks the ability to do things. But he's bad at it.
: Santa Clarita Chr we probably shouldn't even mention. They haven't beaten anybody. Every time they pass Sylmar they take L's. They also overhype themselves which bring the attention and dislikes from anyone who knows anything about basketball.
: Village Chr is top 2 worst. Everybody knows these 2 things: Crooked Coaches coach at Village and players will not flourish there. 2-25 record with a weak schedule.
: Inglewood. There's too much talent around to struggle. Coach Roy had a few tough years and didn't get along with admin. He's gone now but good luck to the new coach.
How is Alemany considered a bad program? Do you know that Alemany was pure TRASH for years!!! Tray has done a fine job in building that program. He took his lumps as a head coach and has built a successful winning culture at Alemany. Just say you donít like him for whatever reason, but one thing you canít say is heís leading a bad program. Letís not forget that he has a state championship and has dominated the mission league! Chill out on that hater hooch youíve been drinking!
