: : : : : : : : : : question, i saw that CIF is updating weekly its guidelines on the tiers and sports etc. Does this mean and is it possible that eventually basketball will be moved from the restrictive yellow tier to a more doable red or orange tier?
: : : : : : : : : CIF cannot update tiers as the tiers are created by the state medical folks. If they move a sport from one tier to another, it will be reflected in the CIF publication.
: : : : : : : : Previous poster is correct. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) determines what tier different sports can begin competition. They will be updating their youth sports guidelines this week. The CIF-Southern Section posts for the purpose of showing which tier each county is currently in. Those updated COVID cases are released every Tuesday by noon.
: : : : : : : i appreciate the feedback. Do you think there is a chance that bball is moved into another tier? do we play this season?
: : : : : : As long as the current decision makers are in place I don't see a change in their mindset. The CIF-State folks that have been in communication with the State health people have not been able to convince them otherwise to date. We are in January & will be in a stay at home order here in SoCal for the month, then Purple Tier athletics can start in February. I would say Red Tier sports have a chance for a short season, Orange - slight chance, but football won't be played this late, Yellow tier - NO Chance. Hopefully with the vaccine roll out momentum can be built, but it's likely to be the fall before a typical Athletic year calendar/school can resume.
: : : : : Possibility that as the Recall effort gains more and more steam, they magically start removing restrictions.. still not convinced HS sports will play, but... fingers crossed
: : : : Get Biden in office and have a president that puts a real effort into ending the virus and not just bitching all day every day
: : : we are moving next year to state that allows hs hoops and move back when the season is over.
: : Removing restrictions would cost him credibility with those who voted for him in the first place.
: : Even if Newsom were recalled, CA isn't playing HS sports this year. Gather and play them at your own risk and on your own dollar, not your school district's.
: The last poster is correct and incorrect. Recalling Newsome is important but really not related to hoops if you will. Agree, this is and should be all about.........PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK! That is the bottom line.
A recall is pointless, Newsom's career is over regardless, and we'd end up with Kim Kardashian or some other amateur film star in Sacramento, anyway.
