: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Say it is not true but I seriously doubt there will be any high school sports this year.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The first thing will be to determine if kids will even return to school in the fall. All signs are pointing towards a second wave in the fall. I want games as much as anyone but the safety of the kids is the most important thing.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Hate to say it but - YES - i agree - there will be NO HS basketball this year. Probably not football either. Too many obstacles in the way. I feel bad for seniors who played sports all their lives - become a HS senior - but - no season. Its bad for everyone.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : CIF released its backup plan today. Only Fall Sports would be women's golf and cross country (which if you're good means you are social distancing).

: : : : : : : : : : : : : Basketball would begin practice 1/18. Followed by a 2 month season starting early February with a max of 20 games. There were other details but I don't have them handy.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : First reaction is it would put a strain on schools who have a lot of multiple sport athletes since all the seasons would overlap. Also great difficulty in balancing game/practice time for schools with multiple levels of basketball and volleyball teams.

: : : : : : : : : : : : Where did you see this released?

: : : : : : : : : : : I think I saw this schedule this poster is talking about but it was actually for Junior Colleges. Don’t think CIF has released anything yet.

: : : : : : : : : : That is correct. City College is down to 3 proposals they are very public about. All 3 include basketball starting in January/February since they are nervous about things picking back up in November or December.
: : : : : : : : : : City College is down to 3 proposals, the actual City College athletic calendar will be released on July 20. Also happening on July 20: CIF will be releasing their CIF calendar for 2020-2021. I can certainly see winter sports of basketball starting up in January/February also. We will see how it all plays out.

: : : : : : : : : My incoming freshman son has a solid shot making the varsity team. If CIF / school districts do not allow to play this year, pulling him back to 8th grade. That is the bottom line. Straight A student as well which is more important.

: : : : : : : : Why bother?? If school will be online anyways, just “homeschool” for the year and build up his game. His class schedule can be gym, track, weightlifting, basketball, basketball and more basketball.

: : : : : : : Agree-if he is that good , why hold him back?, colleges are on to the held back athletes, my son graduated at 17 and there were multiple held back sophomores 17-also CIF has had to enforce the 19 years old rule and not eligible for High School Sports

: : : : : : To the last two posts, thanks for the info. Never looked at it that way.

: : : : : I hate the holdback game.. but honestly, if my own kid were entering HS this year and there was the prospect of losing a season, spending another semester or two in an "online learning" environment sitting in front of a screen and losing his sanity again, I'd strongly consider having him "home school" for the year and come back in a "normal" setting. That's not for basketball reasons, but for his development as a person..

: : : : 20 is the age that makes one ineligible for HS sports. If you turn 20 by a certain date in the month of June of your graduating year, no eligibility. I believe its June 15th.

: : : That's 19, not 20 years of age.

: : Lmao..maybe in other states you can be 20 and play but not in Cali.

: That's what I meant, 20 before June 15th of their senior year.

: For example, a student from the class of '24 must be born on June 15, 2004, or later to play in the '23-'24 season of sport. If that senior's birthday were June 14, 2004, the senior would be ineligible for all sports in the '23-'24 school year.

: If 19 year olds weren't eligible, a lot of state championships would be vacated from the past 40 years.

Rule is pretty simple. If you turn 19 prior to June 15 after your junior year, you would be ineligible. So you can be 19 your whole senior year, if you were born June 15 or later
