: I know this is board mainly focused around High School Basketball, but with many SoCal High Schools getting started with their team summer workouts, I believe this has relevance as it translates to basketball as well as both sports are close contact.
: NFL Cowboys and Texans tested all players, 1 had symptoms but recovered but it was reported that other players tested positive but were asymptomatic.
: Now translate that to your local HS football team. Is each player going to be tested daily/weekly/monthly or never? The asymptomatic player surely will spread it to teammates who will spread it to friends outside of football and family members they reside with. That is the problem with this virus is the asymptomatic folks that pass it along to the high risk folks that than get hit hard and need the ICU for the live or die stage.
The WHO has changed its stance on asymptomatic spreaders. Asymptomatic cases aren't contagious unless the infected person eventually develops symptoms. Most young players will not develop symptoms. Chances are if the players get the virus, it will not be from playing football.
Basketball may be more vulnerable as it starts in the heart of flu season and ends in March.
Football should be fine. Temperature checks being doctored to keep star players on the field may be a problem, however.
