: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Crespi to Cal Lutheran = 4-21. What happened to Cal Lutheran Basketball. I thought they hired the Hall of Fame Coach Russell White?

: : : : : : : : : : : : : The players are not very good.

: : : : : : : : : : : : If you have followed Coach Russell White, you will see. He will build the program up as some of the players join the program. 4-21 program are with 0 of his players. That will change. Come talk to us in a couple years.

: : : : : : : : : : : Had 1 senior on the team I believe. Players he has now are not very good. There's a reason the previous coach left after 2 years. He will have them in the upper tier of league shortly.

: : : : : : : : : : I dont know the man but he took the job in the late summer which is dam near impossible for any college coach to do much, the roster is pretty much set at that point. I am sure with a year of recruiting and improvements they will be much improved. D3 basketball is all about who gets a bounce back or has some good HS connections to get find some hidden gems.

: : : : : : : : : Sounds like a bunch of excuses of not knowing how to recruit college level players. He did an exceptional job of recruiting high school players.Just may not be able to execute a college program. The players are not very good is not a valid reason. The life blood of a college program is bringing in players that can help you win. No one cares what coach left 2 years ago.

: : : : : : : : If the previous coach leaves a program after two years, it means something went very badly in those two seasons. No team loses a coach after two years if the program is in good shape.

: : : : : : : : D3 recruiting classes are finalized in July, Coach White only took the job July 20th.

: : : : : : : : From a Daily News article:

: : : : : : : : "White, to no suprise, is already hard at work in his new role. Hes in the process of hiring his coaching staff, hes already made a recruiting call and intends to get acclimated to the new NCAA Division III rules, which are much different than high school rules.

: : : : : : : : For example, he nor his coaching staff will be able to interact with players until October 15."

: : : : : : : :

: : : : : : : The quote from the Daily News, as usual, was grammatically incorrect, and should have read as follows:

: : : : : : : "For example, neither he nor his coaching staff will be able to interact with players until October 15".

: : : : : : : Call me a stickler but the sentence didn't make sense the way it was written (as originally written he seems to suggest that "he...will be able to interact with players until October 15". The addition of "nor his coaching staff" just makes the sentence as originally written confusing.

: : : : : : : But that's why the Daily News is such a crappy paper. That, and it's political bent, which leans way too far to the right for my taste.

: : : : : : : And yeah, White was dealt a crappy hand this past year and had to live with it. He's a good coach, but that could only take him and his team so far...and that wasn't very far this past year.

: : : : : : : Frankly I was really surprised at how badly they did, given CLU's historically good teams at their level of play.

: : : : : : Yes he's a good coach at micro managing every dribble of the ball. Can't yell at kids every possession. He will be back at high school once he realizes that his monster ego and 31-67 record after 4 years will return to where he belongs. He's a better high school recruiter.

: : : : : 9-15 and 7-18 the two years prior to Coach White. Safe to say he took over a program obviously headed in the wrong direction. Morons just stay behind your computer screen and talk it's such an easy fix. smh.
: : : : :

: : : : There is so much jealousy in this thread it's sickening. People just HOPING that another person will fail, looking for any reason to call name or make accusations, acting like taking over a D3 college team is like playing a video game. If you can't win right NOW, you must be a failure. From the original post and the snark "I thought they hired a hall of fame coach.." to the "sounds like a bunch of excuses.." to "he'll be back where he belongs.." You act like a bunch of jealous old women, bitter about where your own life took you and jealous of others who maybe were a bit more successful than you... Grow up

: : : Someone's feelings got hurt it seems? Must be on staff for CLU. It's safe to say that the program is going backwards with 4 wins it appears. More excuses won't work for ya bro when your recruiting at the college level. Shh

: :
: : Given Russell White took the job in late July, it
: : would seem he wasn't their first choice, so he may
: : not get a long leash. Another subpar season,
: : combined with a potential slow in-season
: : recruiting year, would probably put him on the hot
: : seat...we all get that.

: : Gotta give the staff one mulligan, the previous
: : coach had no connections to the community and
: : recruited under the program's standards. It
: : didn't help that White's predecessor took over for
: : a longtime successful coach and proceeded to lose
: : more games each of his two years.

: : Russell's no Nick Saban, but even the highest
: : career-earning college coach lost a home game to
: : Louisiana Monroe in his first season.

: Classic response.. "oh you must be on the CLU staff.." hahaha. OK.. Same guy whose only other canned reply is "Ok, dad. You're son isn't very good.." Amazing debate skills.
: Same people who see others become successful, save their money to buy a house and move out of the crappy apartment complex sitting there saying "who do they think they are? They'll be back where they belong soon enough.." Embarrassing

I'll say it again, players are not very good. Let the guy recruit for a couple of years and get his system in. If he hasn't had success after 3-4 years, then go ahead and criticize him, but anyone who knows collegiate sports know you cannot judge record based upon 1 season. You can judge culture and attitude though, and in my limited exposure to what I saw of the program, it looks promising.
