: : : : : : : : : : : : : O: : : Did you guys see how dominate Oakwood was throughout the playoffs! I mean nobody could stop them lol
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Dominant, not dominate
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : But didn't they lose in the state playoffs (round 1)?
: : : : : : : : : : : : : How did your team do? LOL - Lost again? Oakwood was in every game and made southern section finals 2 years in a row. We are all proud of our team. Are you proud of your team>? LOL Thats what I thought.
: : : : : : : : : : : : Jealous of Oakwoods success i see? They have had 2 great years and more coming. Great coach - great players - small school on the map now. LOve it!
: : : : : : : : : : : Maybe now you pathetic Oakwood parents will stop counting your chickens before they hatch lol correct me if I’m wrong but we don’t hang banners for making it to the state playoffs! We hang them for winning CIF and State! How many of those banners do you have hanging from this “tremendous 2 year run” illegally recruiting kids. Hope it was worth it. Mike Balian must have learned how to recruit from his time at Campbell Hall. If you’re going to sell your soul at least get something out of it Mike
: : : : : : : : : : Illegally recruiting? LOL Jealous huh>?? You are one pathetic jealous individual. You are so jealous of Oakwoods success. You only wish you had a good coach like Oakwood has. Oakwood has had 2 outstanding seasons under Coach Mike. Name one player that was "illegally" recruited"? 3 years ago Oakwood was winning 5 games a season - under Coach Mike they are averaging almost 20 wins a season. Hello? LOL - Coach Mike will probably be named coach of the year - and you? LOL -
: : : : : : : : : coach mike completely changed the basketball culture at oakwood since he arrived - day 1. that doesnt happen with recruiting. that happens when you EARN the RESPECT of your team.
: : : : : : : : The top four players transferred in the past two seasons. It is what it is, and to be expected when you hire an AD with such connections.
: : : : : : : : They had better recruit some players next year, as Oakwood is slated to play in 3AA under the current point system.
: : : : : : : They have a very good group of returning players and they will have some very good new talent. They didnt recruit anyone, they have a good basketball program and a great academic program.
: : : : : : They're playing in a weak division.
: : : : : So what? LOL - people who dislike Oakwood keep saying that. Its a division, its real, they keep stats, they have playoffs, they play to win and they play hard and practice hard like any team in D1 or D2. What division they play in is irrelevant. Go Gorillas -
: : : : Oh Heaven forbid, a small school recruits. Who cares? Nobody wins at a private school without recruiting. Want to know what a private school looks like without recruiting? Look at the other teams in the Independence League.
: : : : Oakwood has always had a great campus and high academic standards. It just so happens some of the transfer students who “came for the school” are 6’6. Right.
: : : : There were years where only 1 player on Oakwood played travel ball. One season, a girl started on the boys’ team. Oakwood has always been the same school, save for a couple new additions to the athletic department who are making the difference now. Girls Soccer team just won CIF, I expect the boys basketball team to get several new players this summer. If not, their run in 3AA will be brief, the ghost of John Wooden couldn’t make them a contender in that division, with just the returning players.
: : : Notre Dame has turned into Oakwood's feeder program. Not a bad thing tho since it's similar to going from a Power 5 program to a mid major.
: : You dont seem to understand. Nobody was "recruited" as that implies the coach or his assistant or the AD or whoever went out of their way to bring in players. What IF a kid
: : simply wanted to attend Oakwood and also liked the basketball program/coach/facility, etc?
: "What if a kid simply liked the small school environment as well as the super education Oakwood provides? Is that "recruiting"? Or is that simply freedom of choice? Choice to decide where the kid wants to attend school and play basketball."
: The former coaches must have been really awful...must have been them that drove away all talent the past three decades.
: Oakwood's always had the same stellar academics, atmosphere, facilities, etc...it's the people in the athletics program that have changed. It's not like these kids are leaving some non-accredited school either, some have come from Mission League schools with strong academics and successful programs.
: Coincidental or not, the talent transferring in to Oakwood is significantly up, compared to the previous 25+ years. They had one player under Sarge's tenure who would've started this past season.
i have a question about "recruiting". i think the CIF rules stipulate that a kid cannot transfer schools in order to play for a particular coach. (AAU coach - travel team coach - etc) We all know this happens a lot these days. Kids like a certain coach and want to play for him. Is that wrong? You could argue it is or you could argue it isnt. Why is it called "recruiting"? Isnt it more simply a kids choice of who he/she want to play for? I am not saying its right or wrong = im just asking what do you think?
