: : : : : : Very impressed by what Cypress was able to do Orange Lutheran. They may be down in talent at OLu, but still have d1 talent in 6'8 kid from Turkey. Cypress played so hard and were very disciplined. They compete to the best of their abilities. Good Job to a team and coach I didn't know much about until after seeing them for the first time.
: : : : : Yeah, They need to move up to a D-1 league such as the Sunset league.
: : : : OFFICIAL WINNER OF WORST "TAKE" OF THE WEEK!!!
: : : : There is literally no such thing as a D1 League, as everyone is placed in divisions by their individual strength as a team. But, let's go down the list of teams in the Sunset (Wave & Surf Leagues):
: : : : Edison 2AA
: : : : Newport Harbor 2AA
: : : : Los Alamitos 2A
: : : : CdM 2AA
: : : : Fountain Valley 3A
: : : : Huntington Beach 3A
: : : : Marina 2A
: : : : Laguna Beach 3AA
: : : Sunset:3 left
: : : Los Al 2A
: : : Laguna Beach 3AA
: : : Fountain Valley 3A
: : : Empire: 3 left
: : : Cypress 1
: : : Crean Lutheran 2A
: : : Kennedy 4A
: : Been doing this for 30 years! Cypress is good, canot beat the Sunset Teams! Think Los Alamitos beat them by 30! Laguna beach is better, a very good Coach and 5 solid players! Fountain Valley has guys from all over, Recruiting like a Villa Park/Trinity School!
: Since when is it about "yeah, but they can't beat ..." Every team is placed in a division based on previous year's success. Cypress had a great year and moved up to D1. If they happen to make a deep run, then the argument will be, "yeah, but they weren't in the Open Division.." If they got good enough (eeerrrrrrr.. recruited players from Long Beach and LA) to be in the Open, it would be "yeah, but they didn't win it.."
: Yes, they lost to Los Al.. not by 30, but by 18. The did lose to Laguna Beach by 15. Both are really good teams. LB probably has the best/most underrated coach in OC. But to constantly downplay a team made up of basically neighborhood kids, while at the end of your point you praise a team like Fountain Valley for their recruiting.. just ridiculous.
Cypress is not made up of only local kids. You can argue and say most of them are within the district boundaries and that would be a little less polarizing. Cypress School, not basketball is the jewel of the Anaheim Union HS District (Oxford best academic school) but over all Cypress has what 90 percent want. Its a diverse school in a solid city with middle to upper middle class families. AUHSD is a huge district and kids can go to which ever school they want within that district. That being said, those "local' kids which you speak of, many of them should be at Katella, Anaheim, Western and so on. So I wouldn't use "local" to describe them. Fountain Valley can say the same thing, For example, Fountain Valley has a kid that should be at Irvine high, the distance between Irvine High and Fountain Valley, roughly 12 miles. Wait for it. the distance between Katella and Cypress High , little over 13. Can FVHS say they get "local" kids too then?
